Job Purpose The Senior Research Chemist is responsible for managing product development projects, especially the development and refinement of chemical formulations. The mission of the Senior Research Chemist is to create new products or processes that address ESI business and customer needs. Job Responsibilities Research, develop and formulate new surface treatment products for the printed circuit board, molded interconnect, connector and IC substrate industries Identify, develop, and execute strategic research project activities as delegated to them by the Senior Research Projects Manager Observe, analyze, and interpret the results from these activities and make recommendations for the direction and preferred route forward for research projects Use data generated pro-actively for problem solving and/or value added activities on projects Assume a leading role to creatively drive research projects to a successful completion Where appropriate, lead junior technical staff to aid with a projects timely completion Write reports and presentations that clearly communicate technical findings to MAES staff, participating in departmental project meetings Knowledge and hand-on experience on state of the art analytical methodology, which may include AAS, FT-IR, HPLC, GC, IC, UV-vis absorption spectroscopy, ZYGO, SEM, EDS preferred but not essential Develop and validate practical alternative approaches for current product line offerings Maintain a high level of professional expertise in the state of the art principles, theories and methodologies in technology areas of strategic importance to MAES Requirements PhD in chemistry, with working experience on electrolytic plating process. Advanced theoretical training with practical experience. Knowledge on material science is desired. Formulation experience on electrochemistry and electrolytic metal plating, especially on copper plating. Highly motivated individual with strong communication and computer skills Knowledge of printed circuit board fabrication and chemistries (desired but not required) Working knowledge and ease of use with experimental design software Product development and formulation for surface treatments in electronics industry including printed circuit boards, IC substrates and LED applications. Able to observe, analyze, calculate and interpret results, prepare reports and recommend further action based on results. Expected to suggest practical alternative approaches to problems Thorough literature and background information searching Accountable for a project and achieving specific technical goals within that project.
