Job Description Candidates are sought for a Senior Research Associate affiliated with the Center for Marine Autonomy and Robotics at Virginia Tech . This appointment is for one year with extension to multiple years expected, but subject to availability of funds and performance evaluation. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership in the design, fabrication, and deployment of a wide variety of marine robotic systems. Responsibilities include: Design, fabrication, and testing of electronic systems for autonomous underwater vehicles and other marine robotic systems Development of software for autonomous underwater vehicles and other marine robotic systems Development of navigation algorithms and navigation systems for small autonomous underwater vehicles Participate in systems integration of all subsystems of small autonomous underwater vehicles and other marine robotic systems Provide leadership in the development and execution of a supporting experimental test program Interact daily with a diverse team that includes members from industry, academia, and government Communicate with external research sponsors Prepare technical reports and peer-reviewed academic papers Required Qualifications Earned PhD degree in electrical engineering or a closely related discipline. Experience designing electronic subsystems for small autonomous underwater vehicles Experience developing software for autonomous underwater vehicles using C and the Autonomy Vehicle Library. Experience developing state-of-the-art autonomy algorithms (e.g., obstacle avoidance) and implementing the algorithms on small autonomous underwater vehicles; evidence by peer-reviewed academic publications. Experience deploying small autonomous underwater vehicles in the field.
