Senior Payroll Tax Accountant

Our client is seeking a Senior Payroll Tax Lead. This is a specialized position, and the ideal candidate would have experience working with a PEO company in the payroll tax department or at a small/medium tax practice.

Overview of the Senior Payroll Tax Accountant role:

  • Lead accurate and timely reporting of payroll tax liabilities and payments for multiple states and entities, ensuring compliance with all federal and state laws
  • Develop and implement standardized processes, controls, and procedures to maintain accurate tax rates, reconcile data between systems, and streamline tax reporting
  • Take ownership of quarter and year-end payroll tax filings, W-2s, and amendments, leveraging your in-depth knowledge of multi-state payroll tax compliance
  • Proactively monitor and stay informed about newly released tax regulations, such as the Employee Retention Tax Credit (ERTC) and assess their impact on payroll tax operations
  • Act as the primary point of contact and trusted advisor for clients and internal leaders
  • Support and assist process optimization and innovation

Preferred Qualifications for the Senior Payroll Tax Accountant:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (+)
  • MasterTax or PRISM experience (+)
  • Experience in multi-state payroll tax compliance, payroll tax regulations, W-2 reporting, and tax reconciliation processes
