Reporting to the Assistant Director, Education, the Online Student Success Specialist is the principal
advising resource for all students who engage in online learning forums. The Online Student Success
Specialist helps students develop skills, behaviors and habits that contribute to student success in
distance learning courses. These skills include proficiency with the college's learning management
system, academic and career goal setting, learning strategies, time management and organization, self-regulation, and self-efficacy. Through collaboration with students, faculty and associates, the Online Student Success Specialist will identify students who need additional assistance to be successful and work proactively to address areas of concern as students strive to achieve their educational goals.


Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Assists with first day Orientation as necessary for new students.

• Proactively engage with students to promote active participation, collaboration, and a sense of
community within the online forum environment

• Solicit feedback from students regarding their experiences, needs, and preferences, using this
information to continuously improve and optimize the online learning environment

• Educate students on policies and procedures, and program requirements, ensuring consistent,
and accurate information is identified, shared, and applied

• Identify and address student concerns, technical issues, and other challenges in a timely and
effective manner, collaborating with relevant stakeholders to find solutions. This includes related
interactions with students: emails, phone calls or written communication and generate regular
performance reports summarizing student progress.

• Closely monitor new students for appropriate activity in online and blended courses

• Assist students in developing educational plans and strategies to improve student success.


Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:

Associate degree required.

• 2-3 years online teaching experience and/or experience with online learning/learning systems
required.

• Bachelor's degree preferred.


Experience & Skills

Knows principles, theories, and concepts of the profession through practical experience.

• Experience working with adult learners, first generation college students, and students from
diverse backgrounds.

• Knowledge in the higher education field to cultivate a learner-centered environment and to foster
excellence.

• Experience and skill in interpersonal communications and conflict resolution
techniques/procedures.
