Job Description The National Wind Technology Center at the NREL Flatiron's Campus is seeking a qualified candidate to lead project teams focused on developing approaches to coexistence between offshore wind projects and existing regional interests. The candidate will act as a technical leader on projects, and facilitate and organize diverse stakeholder groups to accomplish key objectives. This work may be performed in partnership with the Department of Energy, other federal agencies, states, local communities, industry developers, academic institutions, energy consultants and other national laboratories. Our work informs policymakers and the offshore wind community by developing, facilitating, analyzing, and disseminating research and information to accelerate deployment and long-term research uptake. The primary job duties for this position are: Act as a project lead on offshore wind environmental and coexistence projects, including developing scopes of work, assigning team members, and ensuring work is completed on time and to an acceptable level of quality. Develop strategies for reducing environmental impacts and fostering coexistence of offshore wind projects and other ocean users, including potential collocation with fishing or aquaculture activities. Act as a liaison between diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, fishing communities, and environmental organizations. Organize and facilitate technical workshops to facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing. Contribute to regulatory impact assessments and alternatives analyses for offshore wind projects. Communicate research results internally and externally to stakeholders. Contribute to the development of proposals to obtain funding for new offshore wind environmental and coexistence projects. Provide expertise on marine environmental issues, including marine mammal interaction concerns and requirements for compliance with relevant regulations and standards. The successful candidate will have excellent writing, interpersonal, and communication skills. The candidate will be expected to publish research results in technical journals/conference proceedings and present work at conferences, symposia, and review meetings Basic Qualifications For a Researcher V: Relevant PhD and 9 or more years of experience . Or, relevant Master's Degree and 12 or more years of experience . Or, relevant Bachelor's Degree and 14 or more years of experience . Apply advanced engineering technical principles, theories and concepts. Contributes to the development of new principles and concepts. Considered a national subject matter expert. Demonstrates leadership in a number of areas including all team, task and/or project lead responsibilities (works independently). Demonstrated management of complex and/or impactful projects. Excellent writing, interpersonal and communication skills. For a Researcher IV: Relevant PhD and 4 or more years of experience . Or, relevant Master's Degree and 7 or more years of experience . Or, relevant Bachelor's Degree and 9 or more years of experience . Applies extensive engineering technical expertise, and has full knowledge of other related disciplines. Considered a technical resource. Demonstrates leadership in several areas of team, task or project lead responsibilities. Demonstrated experience in management of projects. Professional experience in research institutions, governmental agencies, non-governmental organizations, or the renewable energy industry. Expert experience in effectively leading projects and project teams. Strong ability to provide technical management for complex research projects. Strong familiarity with regulatory requirements governing offshore wind energy. Expert experience with an offshore energy industry, either wind or oil and gas. Must have strong knowledge of marine species and habitats. Proficiency in communicating to a wide range of audiences through presentations and written documents. Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships internally to NREL and externally with sponsors and research partners. Demonstrated ability to organize and motivate teams to identify and resolve complex technical problems. Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week) Job Profile: Researcher IV / Annual Salary Range: $95,500 - $171,900 Job Profile: Researcher V / Annual Salary Range: $114,500 - $206,100 NREL takes into consideration a candidate's education, training, and experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees.
