ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: The Senior Microbiology lab tech is responsible for supporting the Quality department by receiving, preparing, analyzing, and reporting the microbiological test results. The lab tech will also be responsible for preparing reagents, controlling consumables inventory, calibrating microbiological laboratory equipment, maintaining a clean work environment, updating ERP with test results and communicating with departments for high priority items status and any other duties as deemed necessary by the business. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performing microbiological tests on incoming raw materials, finished goods, and environmental samples. Performing internal audits as assigned and participating in client / regulatory audits as required. Leading and participating in continuous improvement programs for the microbiological laboratory. Leading and participating in microbiological laboratory investigations and root cause analysis. Preparing reagents for microbiological tests as required. Ordering and maintaining the consumable inventory. Timely communication of foreseeable challenges to management Creating lab testing SOPs and Standard Work documentation as needed Review of laboratory testing documentation for formal annual review Perform other duties as assigned. ESSENTIAL/SKILLS NEEDED: Able to maintain an aseptic environment and utilize aseptic techniques. Able to strictly follow instructions and procedures. Able to both work as part of a team and independently. Able to document activities performed within the laboratory to a high degree of accuracy. Able to perform calculations accurately. Able to communicate information to others effectively. Possess attention to detail and good organizational skills. Possess an understanding of universal precautions. Possess an understanding of electronic and computerized equipment within the laboratory. English comprehension including speaking, reading, and writing is required for our business's necessity to ensure a safe and effective work environment. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE A bachelor's in science, majoring in microbiology or a related field. 3-5 years of microbiological laboratory experience. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Occasionally exposed to odor and fumes. Must have an average vision, use of arms, and hands to see lab instruments and to operate equipment. Average to above average English communication skills must be able to hear and speak to communicate with co-workers and some customers. Must have use of legs to navigate around the work area and production area. Average repetition in this job. Exposure to food allergens such as, but not limited to, milk eggs, tree nuts, wheat, and soybeans will occur.
