Lake County Public Works is a sewer and water provider to 40% of Lake County residents and owns, operates, and maintains more than 750 miles of pipe, three water reclamation facilities, more than 100 pump stations, an excess flow facility and a 1-mile-long levee. This Public Works position is to collect, analyze, and report data for Lake County's drinking water and wastewater systems. Essential Functions Perform lab analyses on routine and non-routine samples. Conduct sample preparation for chemical and microbiological analyses. Assemble standard operating procedures and technical lab reports. Assist with the certification program. Develop analytical methods and manage lab data using a LIMS system. Review lab data. Use of an established QA/QC program and oversee ongoing routine and special monitoring programs. Knowledge Skills Abilities and Education Required The Lab Tech must have a good knowledge of the principles and practices of chemistry, microbiology, and/or environmental science. Ability to operate analytical equipment such as Graphite/Flame AA, Ion Chromatograph, and ICPMS preferable. Education and/or Other Requirements: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in biology, microbiology, chemistry or environmental science. One year of related lab experience. Illinois Dept of Public Health Certificate in microbiology is preferred. Valid driver's license, supplemented by a satisfactory driving record. Supplemental Information Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to lift 20 lbs., walk, use hands and arms to operate tools and equipment; push, pull and grasp objects. Employees must also lift and/or carry objects weighing 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 60 pounds. Lake County offers a competitive salary and benefit package.
