General Information: James Madison University's Facilities Management is accepting applications for a Senior Horticulture IPM Tech. Shift is Monday - Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., with overtime as required to cover special events and inclement weather. There is a slightly alternate schedule during the summer months. Duties and Responsibilities: Assist with the development and maintenance of the geographic information system (GIS) database of all trees. Lead correspondence with collecting data from all supervisors in regards to new planting, removals and all other pertinent Tree Campus Information, including all tree contract work. Assist with the development and implantation of IPM schedule/calendar with supervisor to include coordinating time frames for inspections. Ensure safe applications of approved products and chemical as stated in the IPM plan and by federal, state and local regulations. Ensure SDS sheets are up to date for all chemicals being used. Assist with the development of a disposal plan for all chemicals no longer in use. Ensures all applications are read, understood and followed according to the labels, when pesticides, herbicides, rodenticides, and germicides are used. General landscaping to include the installation and maintenance of flowers, trees, shrubs and turf; trash removal and snow removal. Assist other landscape crews during special events, sporting events, graduation, and snow and ice removal The employee in this position will be considered designated, meaning the work performed is essential to university operations and the employee will be required to work during periods of authorized closings. Qualifications: Required Working knowledge of general landscaping practices and procedures. Knowledge of turf maintenance and installation. Ability to do the following: work independently; lead a small group of employees; operate tractors, trucks, backpack blowers, chainsaws, snow-blowers, and various hand tools. Ability to do physically demanding work for extended periods of time in a variety of environmental conditions. Must have a current Pesticide Registered Technicians License. Must be at least 19 years old and possess a valid driver's license for a minimum of 24 consecutive months. Additional Considerations Commercial Pesticide Applicator License or the willingness to obtain.
