Senior Geomechanical Engineer (Mine Geotechnical) Job Summary

We are currently seeking a skilled Geomechanical Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will provide oversight and review of geomechanical projects, focusing on outside consultants, pit slope water control, structural geology, design slope angles, and interfacing with mine design and planning. Additionally, you will review slope stability data collection, analysis, and remedial work, and communicate relevant information to mine and site personnel.

Senior Geomechanical Engineer (Mine Geotechnical) Responsibilities

  • Provides geomechanical project oversight and review relating to outside consultants, pit slope water control, structural geology, design slope angles and interfacing with mine design and planning.

    • Reviews slope stability data collection, analysis and remedial work including slope monitoring data processing, rock strength parameters, geologic structures, slope control blast designs, and slope angle reviews.

    • Communicate accurate, timely and relevant slope stability and geomechanical information to mine and site personnel.

    • Conduct and communicate the results of inspections of pit walls, stockpiles, and site access roads.

    • Proactively seek improvements to the safe mining of mine reserves relating to slope monitoring, slope maintenance, slope and catch bench designs, blasting, geomechanical data acquisition and analyses.

    • Assists with the development, maintenance and implementations of strategic plans to enhance the mine's slope stability program.

    • May represent the site on company sponsored steering teams related to geomechanical or mine slope stability efforts.

Senior Geomechanical Engineer (Mine Geotechnical) Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mine Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related Engineering discipline and five (5) years of Engineering experience in hard rock mining relating to rock mechanics and rock slope stability, OR
  • Master's degree in Mine Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related Engineering discipline and three (3) years of Engineering experience in hard rock mining relating to rock mechanics and rock slope stability
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of Engineering
  • Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

Senior Geomechanical Engineer (Mine Geotechnical) Preferred Position Requirements

  • Strong techical experience in soil mechanics and rockmechanics
  • Experience with monitroing equipment: ground based radar, robotic total stations, piezometers, inclinometers, InSAR
  • Exeprience with software: AutoCAD, Civil3D, MS3D, Maptek PointStudio or Vulcan
  • Two or more years of planning and supervising drilling programs (RC, core, sonic, etc)
  • Two or more years of supervising contractors on a job sit
  • Familiarity with SAP and time coding for non-exempt employee.
  • One or more years of supervision experience of excempt and/or non-excempt employees .
  • Familarity with ROM and Waste Dump planning, construction, and operation
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Experience writing or utilizing emergency action response plans, Monitoring Action Plan, Geomechanical Action Plan, or Trigger Action Response Plans
