The Opportunity: Great Lakes is in the process of constructing 2 new 4800 m hopper dredges for the US market as part of a fleet modernization program. The first hopper dredge was be delivered Q1 2024, the second hopper dredge will be delivered Q4 2025. Both hopper dredges are being constructed at Conrad Shipyard in Amelia, Louisiana. For the 2nd new hopper dredge Great Lakes is searching for a Senior Electrical Project Engineer. This role can be filled with as a fulltime salary position or a contract-based position. The Senior Electrical Project Engineer is part of Great Lakes' Fleet Engineering department reporting to the Electrical Systems Manager. This role will be 100% dedicated to this new build project. The candidate's work location will be a combination of work from home, our Houston office and from our project office in Louisiana. This function will require significant travel both in the USA and internationally (Europe). The position offers challenge, variety, and the opportunity to be involved in the construction of an advanced hopper dredge which will be equipped with the latest technology on automation, Dynamic Positioning, power electronics, VFD systems, power distribution & generation systems, energy efficiency systems and maintenance management systems. The successful candidate will have excellent project engineering skills with demonstrated capabilities in project management, budgeting, scheduling, reporting and coordination with shipyards. Specific knowledge of electrical systems in the marine environment, system integration, regulatory requirements & approvals, industry standards and work methods are key for successful execution of new build projects. The successful candidate should for that reason be an expert in the field of electrical system preferable for dredging or offshore applications and have experience with the electrical part of ship building. For a successful execution of this new build project the candidate will interface and work closely with the Company's New Build team, Fleet Engineering teams, IT, and survey teams. Responsibilities Responsibilities encompass everything from new build documentation review, onsite supervision, and commissioning. The essential elements of the position include, but are not limited to: Understand the electrical & automation Scope of Work as mentioned in Great Lakes specifications and ensure work is carried out accordingly. Ensure technical and delivery requirements are met. Review and follow up of shipyard's engineering activities with regards to their electrical engineering and integration resources. Follow up and review of shipyard's activities with regards to US Coastguard & ABS involvement and approvals. Manage and monitor the process of all US Coast Guard & ABS approval and documentation for the electrical & automation systems. Follow up and review of shipyard's information from vendors (VFI) for compliance to the specifications. Review change requests from the shipyard and provide comments. Manage the review process of all appropriate Purchase Technical Specifications, drawings, and other electrical project documents. Act as Great Lakes representative for all electrical & automation factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), Harbor Acceptance Tests (HAT), Sea trials and dredging trials. Liaise with Fleet Engineering, New Build team, and the Electrical Systems Manager on cost and budget issues. Manage the process of implementation of all electrical & automation components into Great Lakes inventory system. Manage the process of electrical spare part purchases. Requirements BS in Electrical Engineering with at least 5 years' experience. Track record of achievement and advancement. At least 5 years' experience in the dredging or offshore industry Excellent project management skills Proficiency in AutoCAD drawing and Microsoft Office applications. Ability to take the initiative, work independently, make decisions, and develop recommendations. Ability to build strong working relationships both internally and externally Strong oral and written communications skills Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
