Under the leadership of the SVP Patient Care Services & CNO, the Senior Director of Pediatrics and Patient Care Services is responsible for managing, planning, establishing, and overseeing inpatient pediatrics, clinical nutrition, PT/OT, speech, social work, chaplaincy, and interpreter services. Major Responsibilities - Pediatrics: In collaboration with the managers of the pediatric acute care and intensive care units and Child Life, oversees the inpatient pediatric units and Child Life. Regularly conducts rounds. Develops, implements, evaluates policies, programs, and services consistent with the True North alignment. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to efficiently admit, transfer and discharge patients. Provides direction and support to Managers which supports high quality and safe patient care in collaboration with nursing colleagues, physicians, therapists, and administrative personnel. Provides updates at Daily Safety Briefings. A member of the Nursing Executive Leadership Team and participates in the efficient and effective management of the Department of Nursing and the development of its strategic plan. Responsible for establishing financial plans and monitoring the progress toward a budget, adjusting resources when needed. Serves as a role model, mentor, and resource to Nurse Managers. Provides effective direction, guidance, and leadership to establish effective teamwork and motivation, and fosters the effective integration of efforts with system-wide initiatives. Assures compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations and accrediting agencies. Maintains regular communication and meetings with the management team. Fosters relationships with Physician Leaders in all the service lines. May require presence on off-shift and weekends. Major Responsibilities - Patient Care Services: Oversees and supervises all aspects of clinical nutrition, physical therapy (PT), occupational therapy (OT), speech therapy, social work, interpreter services, and chaplaincy. Identifies community needs/trends and works with medical center leadership to develop programs and services which meet identified needs. Investigates service expansion, recommends new programs, and oversees implementation as opportunities present themselves. Assures the delivery of quality services for clients. Develops and maintains good working relationships with community agencies, groups, and professional affiliations. Consults with medical, nursing, administrative staff, and community agencies, as appropriate. Develops policies, procedures, goals, and objectives for clinical nutrition, PT, OT, speech therapy, social work, interpreter services, and chaplaincy. Develops annual operating budgets in conjunction with input from Directors and Managers of clinical nutrition, PT, OT, speech therapy, social work, interpreter services, and chaplaincy. Oversees activities to assure financial goals are met. Works with staff to ensure there are adequate human and material resources. In conjunction with Directors and Managers of clinical nutrition, PT, OT, speech therapy, social work, interpreter services, and chaplaincy, develops and designs work processes and assignments in a manner that optimizes clinical and financial outcomes, patient and staff satisfaction. Identifies objectives and sets performance goals upon which to evaluate the performance of staff which supports the financial opportunities of their programs. Integrates LEAN principles into all processes to improve programmatic effectiveness, enhance staff satisfaction and improve clinical outcomes for patients. Promotes integration of clinical guidelines, performance improvement initiatives, and patient satisfaction efforts into all programs. Ensures that all functions are in compliance with all existing regulatory and reporting requirements and maintains awareness of changing requirements. Participates in communicating and evaluating patient safety risks and assists in closing the patient safety performance gaps identified. Maintains current knowledge of the National Patient Safety Goals and complies with the goals as applicable. May require presence on off-shift and weekends. The duties and responsibilities stated are a general summary and not all inclusive. Position Qualifications License/Certification/Education Required: Master's degree in Nursing or related discipline. RN licensure in the State of Massachusetts. Experience/Skill Required: Minimum of 8 years' experience in a healthcare environment and progressive management experience. Minimum of five years of nursing leadership experience within a hospital setting. Proven leadership ability to motivate and lead staff. Knowledge of Healthcare accounting techniques, cost/benefit comparisons, analysis of budget variances and staffing resources. Ability to plan, organize, and evaluate programs and analyze fiscal data. Knowledge of Utilization Review and Interquel Criteria. Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills to provide effective participative leadership and to interact with patients, families, physicians, and other visitors and staff. Working knowledge of computers, including spreadsheet and word processing software. Experience in managing quality improvement initiatives.
