Position Overview:

We are seeking a Senior Director of Manufacturing to lead and oversee our entire manufacturing process, encompassing both hardware and software. This pivotal role requires a strategic thinker with a hands-on approach, proven experience in scaling production, and a focus on process efficiency and empathetic leadership. You will play a critical role in driving our manufacturing strategy and ensuring a positive, productive work environment.

Day-to-Day Activities:

- Actively manage daily activities in the factory to meet goals on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis.

- Continuously evaluate and improve factory functions, including manufacturing engineering, product quality, supplier quality, operations program management, manufacturing engineering, manufacturing test engineering, production scheduling and execution, and rework activities.

- Conduct capacity planning to identify bottlenecks and develop solutions.

- Collaborate with the COO and leadership team to create and execute long-term manufacturing strategies.

- Assess capability gaps and develop plans to close them.

- Work closely with product development teams on sustaining existing products and introducing new ones.

- Collaborate with supply chain, demand planning, and finance teams.

- Develop and report on budgets, plans, and performance requirements linked to safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets.

- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, driven by data and a problem-solving mindset.

- Collaborate with IT on automating workflows, production scheduling, execution, and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Planning and Execution:

- Develop and implement manufacturing strategies to scale from low to high volume production, utilizing strategic make/buy decisions and the right blend of insourcing and outsourcing.

- Create and manage a scalable production roadmap, aligning with company growth objectives.

- Optimize production workflows to enhance efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.

2. Process Optimization:

- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to streamline manufacturing processes and reduce waste.

- Implement best practices in lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.

- Ensure robust quality control systems are in place to maintain high product standards.

3. Team Leadership:

- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing manufacturing team, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.

- Promote employee engagement and development through empathetic leadership and effective communication.

- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and promote a safe working environment.

4. Cross-Functional Collaboration:

- Work closely with engineering, supply chain, and quality assurance teams to integrate hardware and software in the production process seamlessly.

- Facilitate effective communication and problem-solving across departments to address production challenges.

5. Capacity and Resource Management:

- Plan and manage manufacturing capacity, including facilities, equipment, and workforce, to meet production targets.

- Oversee the procurement and maintenance of manufacturing equipment.

- Develop and manage the manufacturing budget, ensuring cost control and financial efficiency.

6. Technology and Innovation:

- Stay abreast of advancements in manufacturing technologies and integrate relevant innovations to enhance production capabilities.

- Lead the implementation of automation and digital manufacturing solutions to improve efficiency and scalability, with strong collaboration with IT.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.

- Minimum of 10 years of experience in manufacturing management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.

- Proven experience in scaling production from low volume to high volume, preferably in the robotics or high-tech industry.

- Experience in managing in-house manufacturing as well as contract manufacturing and ODMs.

- Strong knowledge of hardware and software as they pertain to robotics manufacturing.

- Demonstrated expertise in lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies.

- Excellent leadership and team-building skills, with a track record of fostering a positive work environment.

- Exceptional problem-solving abilities and a strategic mindset.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively with cross-functional teams.

- Experience with ERP systems and manufacturing software is a plus.
