Role Purpose

The Sr. Director, Commercial Strategy & Effectiveness leads Global Commercial Strategy development, including the Annual Execution Plan, long-range planning, and strategic collaboration opportunities across the business units. The Sr. Director will lead the development and facilitate implementation of strategies and initiatives to drive innovation and transformation, create efficiency, and maximize value delivery. This leader must be experienced in the areas of strategic development and deployment in a fast paced and dynamic business environment.

This role also leads the Commercial Effectiveness team to deliver a strong foundation of Commercial process excellence to include Mars Commercial policy, MVH Commercial SOPs and processes, Communications, Project Management Office and Change Management, including training programs and compliance tracking/reporting. This leader functions as the company's subject matter expert in all these areas ensuring partnership with Business Units to maximize value from the Commercial Process.

This role also leads the Commercial Sustainability team, working in close partnership with MVH Sustainability, Petcare Sustainability, and MVH executive leadership to establish and achieve sustainability goals related to Healthy Planet, Thriving People and Pet Wellbeing.

This leader will be the trusted advisor and strategic team member that can facilitate the planning and execution of changes in processes, mindsets, behaviors, and culture.

Essential Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.
  • Partner with the Commercial function and business unit leaders to implement Commercial Policy, standard processes & tools, metrics, and reporting.
  • Champion planning and change management as a competency through Commercial function leaders, Commercial associates, and across broader organization.
  • Apply a Commercial-wide leadership lens to translate strategic directions and priorities into short-term and long-term business plans that incorporate opportunities for scalable growth.
  • Establish and manage KPIs and an effective oversight process to enable quick business decisions while mitigating risk.
  • Develop and maintain Commercial Annual Execution Plan and long-range plan working with Commercial Leadership Team.
  • Develop and refine work processes and communication flows to address gaps and opportunities for improvement and best practice sharing. Develop and implement training for business unit associates regarding the Commercial Process, policy and process changes.
  • Lead for communication both up and down stream to ensure understanding and alignment throughout the organization.
  • Drive & track compliance in the adoption of best practices, including use of standardized tools, templates, technologies, and methodologies.
  • Communicate ideas effectively and positively to deliver organizational change.
  • Oversee strategic development and continuous improvement of the sustainability initiatives to deliver on the Mars Sustainable-in-a-Generation Plan focusing on Healthy Planet, Thriving People, and Pet Wellbeing.
  • Manage and develop associates in the Strategy and Effectiveness organization.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

Special Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time.
  • Project timelines and work volume/deadlines may often require more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties of this job.
  • Must have mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to solve problems involving several variables.
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate necessary equipment.
  • The noise level in the work environment is normally moderate.
  • Environment where pets are present.

Experience, Education and/or Training:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain & Logistics, Business Administration, Finance/Accounting or other business field is required, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience to provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • 12 years' of experience in is required.
  • Progressive procurement experience with a demonstrated record in leading transformation and growth.
  • Required High-level strategic thinker and hands-on skills, including potentially covering day-to-day activities of the teams at times.
  • Required Demonstrated initiation and execution of process improvement initiatives requiring collaboration with other functional leaders to drive organizational change.
  • Required Experience managing and developing teams by providing strategy and mentorship while supporting specific tasks and issue resolution.
  • Required Ability to articulate results/objectives to various stakeholders, including Senior Leadership.
  • Preferred Supply Chain, Logistics, Commercial Sourcing or Procurement experience
  • Excel and PowerPoint proficiency is required.
  • Health care background (veterinary or human healthcare, pharmaceutical, etc.) is preferred.

Salary: $149,700 - $224,500
