How you'll contribute You will play a pivotal role in our mission to provide a brighter future for patients. As the overseer of all facility design and construction activities, your contributions will directly impact our ability to achieve our business objectives. Your technical expertise will be crucial in ensuring that all projects meet the project plan, schedule, budget, and quality standards. You will also be instrumental in developing and growing the CRE design & construction workforce to support the anticipated expansion of our production facilities. + Develop, direct, and execute s strategic vision and organization structure for the design and construction team + Evaluate current and future facility expansion requirements relative to the existing design and construction workforce (FTEs and key third-party partners such as A&E firms, CMs, Owners' Representatives, Commissioning Agents, etc.). + Provide technical design & construction expertise during CRE-led interdepartmental planning programs to evaluate potential administrative, R&D, manufacturing and warehouse facility expansion projects + Develop and execute a plan to utilize construction cost data to enhance procurement practices for the anticipated expansion of production facilities + Collaborate with CRE Portfolio Manager, Facilities, Validation, and Technical Operations to enhance the Commissioning, Qualification, and Validation and facility turnover process + Develop innovative procurement, design, and construction strategies to optimize project execution and accelerate project delivery + Evaluate current technological resources and assess prospective tools for the purpose of standardizing and enhancing project management processes + Mentor and facilitate professional development of existing CRE design & construction staff. Recruit, train and integrate new staff members to support anticipated national expansion of production facilities. + Establish localized project execution strategies in new markets based on anticipated production facility expansion plans + Oversee all design and construction projects, ensuring they adhere to timelines, budgets, and quality standards + Monitor project progress, support project management staff in the identification of risks, and implementation of mitigation strategies + Coordinate with end users and other shared service departments to ensure seamless project execution + Develop and manage budgets for design and construction projects and report financial performance to senior management + Implement best practices to improve project efficiency, enhance project quality and minimize risks + Monitor vendor procurement and contracting practices and implement industry best practices as applicable + Monitor key project deliverables, general performance and risks of active projects and report to senior leadership + Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices + Drive innovation in design and construction processes + Lead and manage direct reports to include responsibilities for training, goal setting & achievement, performance evaluations/management, coaching, mentoring, career development and provide support for the recruitment process + All other duties as required Minimum Requirements + A Bachelor's Degree in engineering, construction management or business-related field + At least 15 years of experience in the design and construction management of biotechnology and/or pharmaceutical facilities; experience with expansion projects a plus + Demonstrated ability to plan and develop a workforce and process to execute on a strategic vision + Experience with at least a 500 million capital budget (planning and implementation) + Knowledge of the pharmaceutical product development process + Experience in managing large-scale projects with construction costs greater than $400mm + Ability to effectively interact with executives and major stakeholders both in private and public forums + Ability to successfully negotiate and/or influence senior-level leadership + Excellent problem-solving, organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills, including high discretion/judgment in decision making + Demonstrated ability to build and manage project schedules successfully + Effective communication skills (both verbal and written) + Experience negotiating commercial terms and AIA contract language Preferred Qualifications + Master's Degree in engineering, construction management or business related field While United Therapeutics does not require vaccination for Covid-19 at this time, we strongly encourage all employees and visitors to remain up to date on vaccinations and boosters to protect one another from illness.
