We are seeking a visionary and strategic leader to join Haystack Oncology as the Senior Director of Research & Development (R&D) specializing in Molecular Biology, focusing on high complexity Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and liquid biopsy testing. This executive role is designed for a seasoned professional who combines deep technical expertise in molecular diagnostics with a proven track record of leading innovative R&D projects from conception to commercialization compatible with CLIA, CAP and FDA compliance. The successful candidate will be at the forefront of advancing our capabilities in precision medicine, driving the development of groundbreaking diagnostics that improve patient care and outcomes. Provide strategic leadership and direction to the R&D department, setting short-term objectives and long-term goals aligned with the company's mission and market needs. Lead the development and validation of high complexity NGS and tissue and liquid biopsy assays, ensuring they meet clinical, regulatory, and market requirements. Foster a culture of innovation within the R&D team, encouraging the exploration of new technologies, methodologies, and applications in molecular diagnostics. Collaborate closely with cross-functional leaders in Clinical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance, and Marketing to efficiently transition products from R&D to clinical use and commercial launch. Manage the R&D budget, resources, and timelines, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget. Engage partnerships with academic institutions, industry leaders, and technology providers to stay at the forefront of technological advancements and leverage external expertise. Supervise the drafting and submission of intellectual property filings, scientific papers, and presentations for key industry gatherings. Oversee the preparation and submission of intellectual property applications, scientific publications, and presentations at key industry conferences. Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing R&D team, setting clear performance expectations and fostering professional growth. PhD in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or related field, with at least 10 years of post-doctoral experience in molecular diagnostics, including extensive experience with NGS and liquid biopsy technologies. A minimum of 7 years in a leadership role within R&D, preferably in the diagnostics or biotechnology industry, with a proven track record of successful product development and commercialization. Deep understanding of the regulatory landscape for molecular diagnostics, including CLIA, CAP, FDA, and other international standards. Demonstrated ability to think strategically and execute tactically, with a strong focus on innovation and business impact. Exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and guide diverse teams towards achieving common goals. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building strong internal and external relationships, and effectively presenting complex scientific concepts and business strategies to a wide range of audiences. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a detail-oriented approach to project management and decision-making.
