Discord is seeking a Senior Data Science Manager to spearhead our analytics team responsible for the Platform Ecosystem. This collaborative, cross-functional team is chartered with building Discord's app platform. The org's responsibilities include, building tools for third-party developers to create remarkable experiences on Discord, developing first-party experiences for friends to hangout, and aiding users in discovering and integrating these experiences to their own communities. As the Data Science lead, you will shape the vision of your team and actively guide the company's strategy and roadmaps.

What you'll be doing

- Manage, mentor and develop a mission-driven, skilled team of Analytics Data Scientists, expanding the impact of Data teams at Discord.
- Own the vision and roadmap of data-driven decision-making for our Platform Ecosystem org.
- Foster strong relationships with product and engineering to proactively identify opportunities for improvement, and shape our Platform Ecosystem strategy and roadmap.
- Develop novel and interpretable metrics to provide insight into Discord's Platform Ecosystem by using analytics and experimentation.
- Develop and guide Data Scientists to use robust analytical frameworks for strategic analyses.
- Build robust scalable tools to empower decision-making at all levels of the company.
- Encourage strict prioritization to make sure we're working on high impact analyses that best use our time and unique strengths.
- Develop tight and nimble operating models and building a culture of excellence.
- In partnership with our Data leaders, inform architectural decisions, establish best practices, develop lean scalable processes, and contribute to the overall direction of the Data organization at Discord.

What you should have

- You built, led and developed impact oriented analytics teams before: ideally 3+ years of leadership experience as a people manager, leading a team of 5+ data scientists.
- Teams you have led had technical expertise covering at least two of the following: analytics, A/B testing experimentation and Business Intelligence (BI).
- You have a rich experience in analytics techniques to resolve vague and challenging business problems: ideally 6+ years of industry experience.
- You excel at communicating to both technical and non-technical people, with an ability to explain complex concepts simply.
- You are proficient in SQL (any dialect), and competent with Python/R for hands-on analysis
- You are well versed with A/B testing principles
- Competent in modern BI tooling (Chartio, Looker, Tableau, etc.), with an eye towards clear, rich visualizations and performance
- You have a collaborative attitude and natural curiosity

Bonus points

- Proficient with Python/R for hands-on analysis; proficient in modern BI tooling (Chartio, Looker, Tableau, etc.) for dashboarding and visualization.
- Prior work with social media or within digital consumer products.
- Experience with very large data sets and distributed computing
- Familiarity with how to use Machine Learning models to inform decision making at scale
- Familiarity with BigQuery
- Experience working closely with business teams in a data-driven culture.
- Passion for Discord or online communities



The US base salary range for this full-time position is $263,000 to $289,500 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include equity, or benefits.
