Job Details

The Assistant Controller will be to support the VP and Chief Accounting Officer and ensure technical accounting positions are documented and that the Company's SEC filings are completed on time within compliance. This role is positioned for advancement opportunity in Q2 2025.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage all technical accounting research for complex, unusual, and significant transactions
  • Direct and lead the financial accounting team in all accounting related projects, including acquisitions and divestitures
  • Review and document accounting conclusions/disclosures relate4d to new accounting pronouncements, mergers/acquisitions, debt/equity transactions, etc.
  • Lead the quarterly and annual external reporting process including: preparing supporting workpapers and disclosures, preparing initial draft of all reports for 10-K and 10-Q and related disclosure checklists, coordinating commentary and disposition for internal/external reviewers of internal/external processes, and ensuring filings are presented in according with GAAP and SEC requirements/regulations
  • Serve as the primary point person for external auditors during quarterly and annual reporting and technical accounting matters
  • Proactively identify and research future accounting and reporting changes by regulators relevant to the Company's business
  • Identify, declare, and advise on the potential impacts of business decisions on accounting and SEC reporting, financial reporting risks, and assess financial reporting processes
  • Manage and prepare the Company's 401(k) financial statements
  • Assist with prep and review of financial info and disclosures related to annual proxy filing
  • Other duties and special projects as needed

Absolutely REQUIRED Qualifications:
  • Bachelor Degree of Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or related concentration
  • Active CPA
  • 10 years of combined industry experience and audit experience in a large public accounting firm
  • Extensive experience managing integrated audits of independent E&P registrants (public accounting)

General Qualifications:
  • Management of independent E&P (upstream) SEC reporting including: preparing current, quarterly, and annual SEC fliings using SEC reporting platforms like RDG Thunderdome, Merrill Bridge, Workiva, etc.; Maintaining documentation supporting all financial info included in filings; Collaborating with external auditors in their review/audit of filings
  • Management experience in leading the financial accounting team's accounting projects including acquisitions and divestitures
  • Systems experience with P2 BOLO, financial statement interface, P2 AFE, P2 Reporting and Assent 143 applications (or comparable systems)
  • Technical expertise on accounting and reporting relevant to public independent E&P corporations including full cost method of accounting, business combinations, stock-based compensation, fair value, asset retirement obligations, earnings per share, tax provisions, revenue recognition, lease accounting, etc; coordinating national office review of client positions
  • Extensive experience commenting on SEC forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, earnings releases, and comment letters
  • High-level competency in written communication of technical accounting positions
  • Experience identifying, revising, and implementing improvements in existing financial reporting processes
  • Expertise in financial analysis forming conclusions on the reasonableness of financial information
