Job Description

SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE
The Seasonal Laborer is responsible for the assistance of maintenance of county roads, bridges, cattle guards, culverts, signs, and equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all the following essential functions:
  • Prepares and maintains paved surfaces.
  • Assists with installing and maintaining culverts, bridges, and cattle guards.
  • Maintains familiarity with and executes safe work procedures associated with assigned work.
  • Represents the department with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation.
  • Work in a support role; assisting equipment operators.

Knowledge
  • Knowledge of basic use of manual and powered hand tools.
Skills
  • Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Understanding and carrying out written and oral communications.
  • Managing time effectively.

Abilities
  • Complying with Elko County policies and departmental procedures.
  • Accomplishing organizational goals and working independently on assignments from beginning to end.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with peers.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

This position has been identified as safety sensitive and is subject to pre-employment and random drug and alcohol screening pursuant to county policy.

Physical Demands and Working Environment

  • Work is performed outdoors in all types of weather conditions. Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions or airborne particles.
  • Outdoor work is required in the maintenance of county roads, bridges, and equipment. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate vehicles and various pieces of tools and equipment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear; sit; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to stand or walk.
  • The employee must infrequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud in the field.
