As we continue to grow, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Seasonal Field/Plant Technician. What We're Looking For: We are currently hiring a seasonal field/plant technician. As a Seasonal field/plant technician you will assist the Field Department Manager in the production of crops and the Division Manager in the plant practices and programs by performing the essential duties outlined below. Knowledge, Skill and Experience Required: Field inspection Harvesting crops Operating field equipment Required Education: BS in Horticulture or Agriculture preferred, or considerable experience in field operation activities, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to oversee the growing of fields or row crops. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Develop and maintain positive relationships with growers, building confidence and trust, which fosters long term partnerships in production of crops for TCF. Inspect fields, take samples, and observe growing plants to determine spraying, weeding, irrigating, and harvesting, according to time of year, condition of soil, plants, and crops, and document findings. Oversee harvesting and transporting of harvested crop, including:
•  building and nurturing positive relationships with harvesting crews. inspecting work performed by harvest crew, ascertaining quality of harvest, enforcing worker adherence to instructions, TCF safety and production policies, and documenting findings. Cultivate positive relationships with seed and insecticide vendors to benefit TCF in production of crops. Work with Division Manager/HR Manager on plant maintenance and other projects/programs Other Duties and Responsibilities: Relay grower concerns and keep growers informed of current field/growing conditions and crop health status. Analyze and resolve work problems or assist workers in solving work problems. Monitor and document pest control findings, collect, review and document company and grower applied crop protection materials. Inspect fields for foreign materials and remove any detrimental or inappropriate materials. Operate equipment such as: 4-wheeler, harvester, 1 Ton truck, 1 Ton truck, Tractor & Buggy. Assist in maintaining compliance records. Adhere to Company GMP's and Handbook. Perform various additional duties in Plant (maintain equipment, administration, etc.). MP2 or data entry on other programs Must be able to work any shift (days/nights/weekends). Essential Physical Abilities Regularly exposed to outdoor weather and varied conditions. Frequently works near moving equipment and mechanical parts with moderate noise level. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds. Close, distance, peripheral vision and depth perception, with ability to adjust focus are required. Regularly required to travel 200-300 miles a day and walk in uneven fields during various levels of growing season and harvest. Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Math, Reasoning, and Computer/Technology Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Certificates and Licenses: Must be able to acquire a State Flagman's License and First Aid and CPR Certification, and forklift operation (TCF will provide training). Valid driver's license with excellent driving record.
