To make authoritative decisions and recommendations that have a major impact on extensive scientific research activities. To exercise a high degree of creativity, foresight, and mature judgement in planning, organizing, and guiding extensive scientific research programs and activities of outstanding novelty and/or importance. Education & Experience M.D. or PH.D. with ten (10) years of related experience. No other equivalents. Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required: N/A Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Written and verbal communications skills. Interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a team environment. Leadership skills. Personal computer skill with knowledge of related software applications. Responsibilities Develops model concepts and approaches as an individual researcher and acts independently on technical matters. Makes authoritative decisions and recommendations that have a major impact on extensive scientific research activities and result in national and/or international recognition. Exercises a high degree of creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in extensive research programs and activities. Interprets, organizes, executes, and coordinates scientific research assignments concerned with unique or controversial problems. Prepares analyses, reports, and other documentation for publication; presents findings at local, national, and/or international meetings. Serves as principal investigator on single or multiple projects complexity and scope consistent with above criteria, and/or manages a research unit. Prepares grant proposals to obtain funding in support of research activities. Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology equipment. Prepares grant proposals to obtain funding in support of research activities. Performs other duties as assigned. Physical and Environmental Demands Requires occasional exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, occasional handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, occasional exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, occasional travelling to offsite locations, frequent work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, occasional bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 75 pounds, occasional crouching/stooping, occasional driving, occasional pushing/pulling, occasional reaching, frequent sitting, frequent standing, occasional twisting, and frequent walking.
