Under the direct supervision of the Life and Physical Science Program Chair, Assistant Chair, or designee, the technician will be responsible for the general upkeep of all laboratory facilities and will support and assist science faculty in setting up and taking down labs. Major Responsibilities: Responsible for general laboratory maintenance, which includes cleaning glassware and other equipment, as well as maintaining an orderly, safe laboratory environment. Responsible for preparation of equipment, mixing of required chemicals, and any other task necessary for the setup of labs as requested by faculty. Assist faculty in setting up labs, performing labs, and cleaning up afterwards. Perform periodic inventory of supplies and equipment, and work with supervisor to maintain supply and order consumable materials. Work with supervisor and/or faculty to obtain OSHA and other applicable regulations and apply them as they pertain to (a) proper storage and labeling of chemicals and materials, (b) disposal of waste materials, and (c) laboratory safety procedures and guidelines. Perform clerical work associated with the laboratory facilities. Follow IVY Tech Community College policies regarding reporting and management of laboratory accidents. Complete required paperwork, such as timesheets, in a timely manner. Any other duties assigned by supervisor and/or faculty that pertain to the laboratory.
