Position Description WISH is seeking an enthusiastic, skilled, and professional Registered School Nurse to be a part of a team of educators working to provide a challenging and inclusive education for students with disabilities. We are looking for individuals with a passion for working with children with disabilities. S/he will assist the IEP team with health assessments for students with special education and medical needs. The School Nurse will work with children in grades TK-12 across our 2 campuses. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Education/Experience A Clear School Nurse Credential, as required by the California Department of Education (or must meet the criteria for a Preliminary School Nurse Credential). Baccalaureate degree. Three years experience as a professional Registered Nurse. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations A valid California Registered Nurse license by the State of California. An audiometrist certificate issued by the California State Department of Health. Valid CPR and First Aid Certification. Must be willing to use personal vehicle to travel to multiple school sites. Essential Duties & Responsibilities The Registered School Nurse's job primary responsibilities include, but may not be limited to, the following: Assists the IEP Team with health assessments for students with special education and medical needs. Make recommendations regarding health accommodations necessary to support student individual education plans, (i.e. IEP and 504); Write up health assessment reports and upload them to the IEP management system used by the school-site (Welligent) in a timely manner; Communicate with families and school staff through telephone calls, written communication; Addresses potential health problems that are barriers to learning or symptoms of underlying medical conditions. Other Skills and Abilities The ability to communicate with primary health care providers as needed and serve as liaison between the school and community resources when required. The ability to communicate with parents and work with them constructively; to inspire confidence and respect of faculty members and to work with them effectively; and to understand and genuinely care for children.
