Brief description of position: Provides psychological and guidance services to the District and schools including testing, counseling, and consulting, to assist them in meeting the educational needs of students. Major duties and responsibilities: Is aware of and abides by, responsibilities of the position held through familiarization with State law, Board Policies, the District Handbook for Teachers, the local school handbook, position description, and other information which is distributed through official channels (school mail, U.S. Mail, faculty/District meetings, etc.) Develops a balanced program of services which is based on, and is carried out through, clearly written behavioral objectives (goals, objectives, evaluation) and a variety of activities geared for optimum learning and which are compatible with the basic philosophy of the District. Organizes time and services to provide for the accomplishment of objectives within the allotted time and resources. Administers to students the approved individual and group tests as directed by the Superintendent. Evaluates and interprets all testing, completes case studies, and in addition, makes recommendations to Child Study Team and Individualized Education Program Team (IEP) for placement in the Resource Specialist Program, Special Class Program, and DIS services. Consults with parents, as requested by the Principal or Superintendent, regarding students' potential, progress and achievement levels, personality adjustments. Recommends to parents ways of helping students or sources from which they may seek further assistance. Confers with teachers, administrators, and other professional staff members on findings of individual and group tests and helps them in their efforts to better understand and place individual students and to provide stronger programs of education. Consults with other agencies, both public and private, regarding individual cases. Consults with other psychologists, psychiatrists, and physicians for the purpose of correlating all available information regarding individual cases. Makes recommendations in cases of exemption, non-promotion, acceleration, and other cases upon request of the Principal or the Superintendent. Counsels individual students regarding test findings, academic problems, social or emotional problems and general vocational goals upon request of the Principal or the Superintendent. Evaluates, recommends, requisitions, and maintains inventory of records of equipment, instructional media, and books. Establishes good human relations program between and among individuals and school staffs. Maintains a community relations program which enhances the operation of the school district. Acts as a resource person on an inter-school level and contributes to the efficient operation of the District through participation in meetings called by the Superintendent or his/her designated representative. Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service activities provided by the District and/or self-selected growth activities. Directs special education programs (Resource Specialist program and Special Class, etc.) Performs other duties as assigned. Supervision received: Under the general direction of the Superintendent. Under the immediate direction of the District Psychologist II/Coordinator, and the Site Administrator while performing services at the school site.
