School Physician

THE ROLE OF THE SCHOOL PHYSICIAN is to serve as consultant to the Superintendent and to the health services personnel in promoting health and well-being in the district schools and in addressing the health needs of the district consistent with the goals set forth by the Board of Education and within the resources provided by the board.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.) Valid license to practice medicine in Massachusetts. (M.G.L. c.71, s.53b)

2.) Knowledgeable about the health needs of children and adolescents.

3.) Minimum of four years of successful experience as a medical practitioner.

4.) Knowledge of state law and regulation in the area of school health practices.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Serves as a consultant to the district's health services and related committees/teams.
  • Provides Standing Orders for the Health Offices.
  • Meets at least three (3) times per year with the Nurse Coordinator or designee of the Superintendent.
  • Provides recommendations in the development of district policies, administrative regulations, district practices and procedures concerning health-related issues.
  • Interprets for district personnel state laws and regulations concerning health-related issues.
  • Cooperates with public and private health officials and practitioners concerning health laws affecting schools, particularly with regard to communicable disease.
  • Available to serve as an advisor in the development and implementation of the comprehensive health education program.
