Scales Operator

Position Overview Full Performance level in the scale operations field requiring considerable knowledge of solid waste acceptance criteria and scale operations; under direction of the shift supervisor, records weights of solid waste received and performs cash, checks and credit card transactions as necessary. Summary of Job Duties Weighs and inspects inbound solid waste for acceptability of loads; rejects unsuitable loads (e.g., duty loads, hazardous loads, unacceptable waste), reads digital scales and records necessary information. Monitors the entrances to assure only the appropriate vehicles enter the facility. Contacts supervisor if problems or complaints arise with customers. Promptly reports unsafe conditions. Completes cash, checks and credit card transactions from haulers (with or without established accounts) and provides receipts. Inspects currency for counterfeit bills. Operates scale program (e.g., PC Scales) and processes credit card transactions through Merchant Partners credit card system. Enters all appropriate information into the scales database system. Counts and balances daily cash transactions; prepares transaction report. Answers telephone inquiries regarding transfer station operations. Maintains scale room; assists with cleaning scale offices. (Performs Related Duties As Required) Minimum Qualifications and Requirements Equivalent to high school diploma and six (6) months working with public.
