Your Job Georgia-Pacific has an immediate opening for a Scaler at our plywood mill in Emporia, VA. This position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Wood Scaling process. Additionally, this person ensures that the quality of the wood received meets our quality standards, helping us to produce some of the highest quality plywood on the market. If you enjoy learning new things and would like the opportunity to work with computers and systems in a manufacturing environment, this is the position for you. Schedule: This is Monday - Friday role possible weekends and OT Day shift 6am - 5pm. What You Will Do Inspect incoming log trucks to ensure supplier quality specifications are met Work with logging contractors and foresters to assist in correcting wood and fiber quality issues Maintain inventory information for raw materials and report daily usages and inventories to accounting, the wood & fiber supply team, and mill personnel Create and provide reports relative to wood and fiber inventories, deliveries, and wood quality Use multiple computer systems to track incoming and outgoing product to ensure that production is maximized and our product gets to market quickly Be able to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed Maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, including wearing safety equipment Work in a hot, humid, cold, and noisy industrial environment Who You Are (Basic Qualifications) One (1) year or more experience in one or more of the following environments: industrial, manufacturing, military, warehouse, customer service, and/or lumber One (1) year or more experience with computers One (1) year experience reading a tape measure. What Will Put You Ahead Customer service and/or sales experience Experience with Microsoft Outlook/Excel/Word Experience tracking inventory levels Experience creating reports. Experience using Win Scale tracking software. Experience in a wood products manufacturing environment Experience identifying wood species; hardwood, softwood, etc. Experience using a scale to weigh trucks.
