Sales Engineer - Las Vegas, NV

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Data Center Sales Engineer to join our Hyperscale team. As a Sales Engineer at Switch, you will play a pivotal role in driving the growth and expansion of our colocation data center services. You will apply your experience with power distribution design, mechanical cooling design, networking architecture & critical facility operations to formalize customer expectations. A demonstrated familiarity with pre-construction activities like project management, estimating, and contract negotiations will enable you to provide comprehensive technical solutions to meet the unique needs of our clients. This role requires a blend of technical competence, project management skills, and a customer-centric approach to support the client life cycle from initial contact through to deal closure and implementation.

This position may require the candidate/employee to undergo additional background checks and drug screenings prior to and during employment in support of customer-specific deployments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Technical Sales Support:
  • - Work closely with the sales team to understand customer requirements and provide technical solutions.
  • - Create and present technical presentations and proposals that highlight the value and capabilities of our data center services.
  • - Develop & Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of Hyperscale client design requirements with an eye on how this impacts our base product and functional teams.
  • Design and Consultation:
  • - Offer MEP design expertise tailored to the specific needs of colocation environments.
  • - Collaborate with clients to gather technical requirements and design customized data center solutions that align with their business objectives.
  • Project Management:
  • - Act as the nexus between customers, contractors, and internal teams.
  • - Lead and coordinate projects related to client initiatives, from planning through execution.
  • - Work with internal teams to ensure timely delivery of project milestones and objectives.
  • Cost Estimation and Analysis:
  • - Prepare cost estimates for customer requirements that capture labor, materials, and related costs. Analyze potential project risks and provide recommendations to mitigate.
  • - Develop relationships with our suppliers and effectively use their resources to quickly assess budget and schedule constraints.
  • - Identify and use internal resources to facilitate this process when necessary.
  • Contracts and Negotiations:
  • - Understand and manage technical details of contracts with client, negotiating engineering and operational terms to align with organizational goals as well as product limitations.
  • - Evaluate contract compliance and identify discrepancies.
  • Operations and Construction:
  • - Collaborate with internal teams to streamline operational processes related to client services.
  • - Maintain visibility into construction projects involving client infrastructure, ensuring they meet quality and timeline expectations.
  • Market Analysis:
  • - Stay abreast of market trends and technological advancements in data center design. Leverage this knowledge to enhance our offerings and maintain a competitive edge.

Required Job Skills :

  • Listening and Interpersonal Skills:
  • Sales Engineers will need to actively listen to clients and understand their needs. Effective communication is critical to deal flow. Asking questions that encourage clients to express their needs is crucial.
  • Organizational and Time Management Skills:
  • Managing multiple active sales efforts, projects, and priorities simultaneously requires excellent organizational skills. As a Sales Engineer, you must be comfortable with navigating multiple aspects of our business and have a working understanding of their high-level function. Knowing when to engage subject matter experts from Engineering, Operations, Construction, Legal, and our Strategy teams is a key to being successful in this position.
  • Analytical Skills:
  • Must be skilled at analyzing client data to better understand consumer behavior and tailor strategies accordingly.

Education and Experience :
Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.


Experience:

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in design engineering. Direct experience in the Data Center industry is highly valued.
