ASRC Federal Field Services, a Subsidiary of ASRC Federal Holding Company, is currently seeking a Part-Time Safety Technician I at the Plum Island Animal Disease Research Center, located on Plum Island, NY. (1.5 nautical miles off North Fork of Long Island & 6 nautical miles off coast of Old Saybrook, CT). Marine transportation furnished by Government provided ferry. Summary: Primary duty is First Responder for medical emergencies; provide 24/7 emergency medical services for facility personnel. Area of responsibility includes maintenance of emergency medical skills applicable to Paramedic level of certification. Duties include, but are not limited to operating motor vehicles, coordinating, and responding to emergency responses for injured or ill patients, performing building inspection tours. Monitor and record operational status of scientific, medical response and safety equipment. Assist in the daily operations of safety and emergency services department. Roles/Responsibilities: Administer first aid-treatment and life-support care to sick or injured persons in prehospital setting. Perform emergency diagnostic and treatment procedures. Observe, record, and report to physician the patient's condition or injury, the treatment provided, and reactions to drugs and treatment. Assess nature and extent illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures. Communicate with dispatchers and treatments center personnel to provide information about situation, to arrange reception of victims, and to receive instructions for further treatment. Decontaminate ambulance interior following treatment of patient with infectious disease and report case to proper authorities. Operate equipment such as electrocardiograms (EKG's), external defibrillators and bag-valve mask resuscitators in advanced life-support environments. Strong organizational, writing & communication skills. Perform other duties as assigned by the department manager. New York State or National Paramedic Certification. Minimum 3 years field experience and a current CPR AED Card. This is a position essential to the facility operation. Work schedule is subject to rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays. Ability to obtain & maintain required security clearances and must undergo a required physical examination and vaccinations. Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your whole body. Utilization of appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment) such as safety shoes, hard hats, hearing, and eye protection is required. Ability to climb ladders, reach overhead and lift to 50 lbs. Industrial work environment that may include loud noise, heat, stress, work indoors and outdoors. As a condition for employment, all personnel entering the BSL-3 biocontainment facilities at Plum Island shall not be in contact with specific susceptible animals and their premises off Plum Island for a period of five (5) days after leaving biocontainment. Currently, restricted species are cattle, sheep, goats, deer, other ruminants, and swine. Contact with horses, birds (agricultural and pet birds) and rabbits are normally permitted, but restrictions may be placed on staff working with or near contagious agents affecting these species. Restricted livestock or other restricted animals may not be housed on the premises where the employee lives and where the quarantine cannot be enforced.
