Duties Serve as the Principal Staff Advisor for the Brigade's Safety Program (a comprehensive 24-hour a day program), to include serving as the Brigade Commander's technical advisor/consultant for safety issues. Serves as the Safety and Occupational Health Manager for a Brigade-sized unit with responsibility for planning, managing, and administering a safety and occupational health program. Participates in operations planning group meetings and other course of action sessions to provide technical guidance and assistance to members of the Brigade command group, subordinate commanders, and staff officers for the integration of range safety criteria into mission. Serves as the point of contact for accident information within the unit. Advisor on accident investigation boards to identify and analyze the cause factors, systems defects, command climate, and performance/standards failures. Requirements Conditions of Employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Incumbent must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance. Incumbent will be required to DEPLOY (world-wide) with assigned/attached units for periods up 365 days. A physical examination for deployment is required. Incumbent will be required to pass a military standard physical examination. A pre-appointment physical examination is required. The military ACU is the duty uniform (when deployed, or in field environments). Incumbent will be issued standard TA-50 for use per local requirement. Incumbent must possess and be able to maintain a valid stateside driver's license. Incumbent must possess or be able to obtain a U.S. Government Vehicle drivers license within 30 days of employment and be able to maintain the same. Incumbent may be required to work nights, weekends, holidays and/or irregular duty hours commensurate with mission requirements. Incumbent may be required to perform TDY up to 50% of the time on an annual basis. Incumbent is exposed on a regular and recurring basis to machines and equipment in operation, hazardous materials. Exposure to dust, high noise levels, wind, sand, and environments of fumes and smoke are encountered. Exposure to elements associated in combat and contingency operations in CONUS and OCONUS locations. Employee may be required to perform work requiring chemical protective masks and protective clothing. Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain standard Army Safety Program certification. Continuous education and training in a tactical field environment is required. Incumbent must be able to meet weapons qualifications requirements. Work involves frequent visits and temporary duty at field sites as well as deployment and participation in military exercises in a variety of environments. During deployment, physical demands may be greatly increased and require extended walking with a rucksack weighing up to 50 lbs. Rations and quarters may be similar to that provided to military personnel. This position has been designated a Testing Designated Position and is therefore covered by the Civilian Drug Testing Program which requires random drug urinalysis testing. This is an EMERGENCY ESSENTIAL (E-E) position subject to deployment. This mandates walking, standing, stooping, bending, carrying and similar movements, as well as agility, stamina, and dexterity.
