Duties Serve as the Safety and Occupational Health Manager for a Brigade-sized unit with responsibility for planning, managing, and administering a safety and occupational health program. Responsible for the development, organization, execution, and assessment of the Tactical Safety Program. Serve as the point of contact for accident information within the unit. Advisor on accident investigation boards to identify and analyze the cause factors, systems defects, command climate, and performance/standards failures. Develop safety policies, procedures, plans and regulations to ensure compliance with applicable standards and to accommodate situations unique to this location and environment. Conduct briefings with commanders, directors, staff officers, and managers to provide the scope of the survey and findings and recommendations. Provide technical guidance and assistance to commanders and staff officers for the integration of range safety criteria and the accomplishment of the mission and subordinate event risk management plans. Provide interpretation of technical and general criteria to assist in the formulation of appropriate control measures. Requirements Conditions of Employment This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. One year probationary period may be required. This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment. This position has been designated as Emergency-Essential and is a deployable position. This position is subject to a pre-employment Drug Test screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident. This position requires completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter. This position requires the incumbent to possess, or obtain and maintain, a valid regular or official U.S. Passport. The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License. This position requires the incumbent to possess or be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Vehicle Driver's license within 30 days of employment. This position requires that the incumbent be able to meet weapons qualification requirements. This position requires the incumbent to wear protective clothing suitable for the work environment. This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain standard Army safety program certification within 12 months. Continuous education and training in a tactical field environment is required. This position requires a physical examination for deployment to include immunizations appropriate for overseas/deployment location(s). This position may require the incumbent to wear a military Army Combat Uniform (ACU)/duty uniform when deployed, or in the field environment. Work requires frequent onsite surveys with prolonged standing, walking, crawling, climbing, bending, crouching, stretching, reaching and other physical movements. May traverse rough terrain. This position is a designated key position. The incumbent may be required to work overtime on an emergency basis. Technical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
