Rural Alliance for Dignity PALS Children's Program The PALS Children's Program serves closely with children 5-9 years old who have experienced some level of trauma. These children suffer maltreatment either from abuse, mental physical or emotional, malnourishment, domestic violence, homelessness, and so on. PALS aims to enhance each child's sense of self, family, and community by promoting self-sustainability. AmeriCorps members serve closely with parents, teachers, caseworkers, other service providers, and especially the children, to serve each child in the best way possible. The PALS AmeriCorps members are supporters for the children in the classroom during the school year and help to provide a safe environment for children to grow and experience the world after school and during the summer. Member Duties : Children's Supporter Responsibilities: - Meet with parents, guardians, case workers, counselors, therapists, and teachers to provide information regarding each child's well-being, family environment, and housing situation, as well as behavior and educational concerns -Act as an Supporter for children in regards to family environment, housing, and social services -Be present during legal hearings that may have an impact on a child's home/ or family situation -Provide crisis intervention and behavioral support with a focus on reintegrating children back into the group programming/classroom environment - Assist children throughout the school day by providing academic, social, and/or emotional support as needed or requested by teachers. -Counsel children on emotional management -Teach life skills, effective communication skills, and problem resolution skills - Provide a safe and structured learning environment Program Benefits : Housing , Childcare assistance if eligible , Education award upon successful completion of service , Health Coverage , Living Allowance , Training .
