Be responsible for keeping equipment in optimum operating condition by coordinating maintenance and repair with an on-staff fleet mechanic. Ensure safe and steady production of the work. Excavate utility trenches, sand pad, and backfill. Switch attachments on equipment in a safe manner and ensure all attachments are accounted for with the machine. Compact with hoe-pack and/or rapid ram on trench lines and concrete pad installations. Handle aggregate with loader. Be able to slope and bank trench lines according to OH & S safe trenching. Handle mechanical loading/unloading of electrical materials as required. Clean and lubricate equipment. Assist in field labor as required. Ability to proficiently operate three or more types of heavy equipment such as a backhoe, track hoe, scrapers, dozer, excavator, loader, rock trucks, compactors, articulated trucks, crushers, and/or motor graders with or without GPS. Uses scrapers, bulldozers, rollers, and backhoes to excavate and move earth. May also be involved in the repair and maintenance of machinery. Performs pre-trip inspections on assigned equipment daily. Performs other duties as assigned. 4-5 recent years' experience working as a Rubber Tire Backhoe Operator. 4-5 years of heavy equipment operating experience. Active driver's license. Knowledge of civil construction. blueprint reading and following specification guidelines. Understand grading markers and line assignments for work planning. Have an understanding of locate markers and locate slip reading. Must have a safety-first attitude. Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures is required. Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required. Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary. High School diploma or equivalent preferred. Physical Requirements: Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions. Regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery. The work environment periodically exposes the employees to high asphalt levels of noise and dust that are typically associated with a construction project. Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites such as grease, gasoline, diesel fuel, and hot asphalt mix. Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.
