White Plains Hospital Job Description Title:Respiratory Therapy Clinical Educator Job Code:500093 Department/Location:Respiratory TherapyFLSA Status:Non-Exempt Reports to:Assistant Director of Respiratory Therapy/Director of Respiratory Therapy Position Summary The Respiratory Therapy Clinical Educator is responsible for clinical guidance, leadership, and competence of the staff. They will assess education needs of the Respiratory staff, ensure yearly competence, and oversee performance improvement initiatives for the department. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors Acts as a clinical resource person for staff in the day to day activities of the department Assists Director in oversight of PI activities of the department Identifies educational deficiencies, determines causes, and collaborates to resolve them. Provides expert assistance in unusual or critical/emergent situations involving life support equipment, decisions, and actions. Develops, maintains, and provides annual competency for staff. In collaboration with the Director, develops annual education plan for the department. Reviews and becomes familiar with current trends impacting Respiratory Care, both locally and globally. Plans and develops educational skills and competencies to address these issues. Provides respiratory care- related educational opportunities as needed to other departments; such as nursing. Develops and coordinates orientation for all new respiratory therapists. Performs all other related duties as assigned Education ExperienceRequirementsMust be a graduate of an approved program for Respiratory Therapy Must hold a current and valid New York State Respiratory Therapy license Credentialed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Must hold a current BLS/CPR, NRP, and ACLS certifications Must have a fundamental and advanced knowledge of respiratory equipment and therapeutic modalities, interventions, outcomes, and side effects. Bachelors degree preferred Core CompetenciesMust have excellent communication skills to effectively teach professionals at all levels. Should show good planning, organizational, and prioritizing skills. Must be detail oriented. Should show good judgment and have the ability to work independently. Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements Work EnvironmentMust have the ability to t and lift heavy medical gas cylinders. May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospitals SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospitals Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
