We are currently seeking a junior mid-level transportation engineer for roadway engineering in our Raleigh office. Any additional transportation experience in hydraulics, traffic management WZTC, pavement marking plans and signing is a plus. We are a rapidly growing company, selected as the 2016 Design Firm of the Year by ENR Mid-Atlantic, ranked 109 by ENR, and have doubled both the number of employees and offices in the last 10 years. Our clientele includes a wide range of state and local agencies. Our Raleigh, NC Office works on transportation Design/Bid/Build and Design Build Alternative delivery projects throughout all of NC including all 14 NCDOT Highway Divisions, Central Technical Services Units, Multi-modal and Planning Divisions as well as the mid-Atlantic region supporting other offices in MD, DE, PA, VA, WV, GA and FL.

Responsibilities:

The Roadway Engineer will participate in the planning and design on transportation related projects. The primary duties will be to support Senior Project Engineers and Managers in a variety of tasks in the field of roadway design. Responsibilities will include development of roadway alignments, 3D surface models, feasibility studies conceptual designs, preliminary design alternatives development for NEPA/SEPA Environmental Documentation, cross sections final contract documents, preparation for construction plans, specifications, special provisions, cost estimates, and the development of technical reports.

Minimum Requirements:

Applicants must possess the following:
  • BS degree in Civil Engineering or related field with 4-10 years of experience in the highway transportation engineering field, NCDOT experience preferred.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments.
  • Experience with design software tools including MicroStation, In-Roads and GEOPAK is required.
  • Rural/Urban roadway design experience from full multi-modal, non-controlled access local, secondary, primary facilities to interstate controlled access corridors is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required.
  • NC Registered Professional Engineer
  • Positive attitude and willingness to work cooperatively with others.

Desired Requirements:
  • Open Roads Design experience/training is a plus.
  • Interchange design experience is a plus.
  • DOT Design-Build experience is a plus.
  • Any VA, MD, WV, SC, FL, DE and PA experience is a plus.
