This position is located in the Pender County Maintenance Unit (Burgaw) and will supervise the activities of one or more crews in work related to Roadway Maintenance. Duties typically consist of planning work operations and adjusting work assignments; monitor expenditures; maintain work records, time sheet, job reports and inventory records; counsel, discipline and train employees; conduct performance reviews, interview and recommend hiring staff. Employee will need math skills to calculate material needed and cost estimates for budget needs. Employee will ensure equipment is maintained and serviced as required. Investigate public inquiries/complaints and recommend solutions. Determine materials, techniques and tools to accomplish work assignments. Work assignments vary in complexity depending on the type of project work. Assignments are normally received in the form of written or verbal work orders, which usually indicate the general nature of the task. Employee is expected to independently perform routine work. New or unusual assignments may be accompanied by more detailed instructions. Work is performed under general supervision and may be reviewed and inspected in progress or upon completion. Employee will traverse unlevel terrain. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. They will use computer software programs such as SAP, TIMS, FIORI, MMS, CARS and Microsoft Office. Employee will operate a motor vehicle. Employee may be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays and in emergency situations and inclement weather. Safety toe shoes are required.
