RN Trauma Clinical Coordinator - Emergency Department

RN Trauma Program Coordinator Position is Monday through Friday (some flexibility with hours) Why UT Southwestern? When an emergency arises, UT Southwestern Medical Center is ready to help. We provide full-service emergency care at William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital, located at the corner of Harry Hines Boulevard and Inwood Road. Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, our emergency department is staffed by board-certified physicians highly skilled in treating all medical emergencies and equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and treatment facilities. We're one of five hospital emergency departments in the community recognized by Dallas Fire-Rescue's Emergency Medical System (EMS) for the management of stroke patients. Summary Works under direct supervision of the Program Trauma Manager to provide leadership to the UTSW Trauma Program. Experience and Education Required Graduate of an accredited Nursing program. Current Texas RN (or BNE Compact State) license. Three (3) years experience as a Registered Nurse including three (3) years in a trauma designated emergency room or critical care experience. Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA), or American Red Cross (ARC). Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA), or American Red Cross (ARC). Current Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC), or current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) course accredited by American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). Current Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC) certification, course accredited by Emergency Nurses association or Advanced Trauma Course for Nurses (ATCN) certification, course accredited by Society of Trauma Nurses (STN). Completion of Trauma Outcomes and Performance Improvement Course (Topic) at hire or within 6 months of hire. Completion of Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine's (AAMC) Automotive Injury Severity Score (AISS) or course equivalent at hire or within 6 months of hire. Completion of Trauma Registry Course at hire or within 1 year of hire. Preferred Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) Specialty Certification such as: Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN) or Certified Acute or Critical Care Nurse (CCRN). Quality Improvement background. Experience in academic healthcare. Job Duties Works with the Trauma Program Manager to provide leadership for the Trauma Program in terms of operations, services, and patient care, consistent with best practices and evidence-based care. Serves as an active member of the trauma team overseeing coordinated care of the trauma patient in terms of injury prevention, health promotion, and rehabilitation. Participates in development and revisions of the Trauma Program policy and procedures. Responds to emergency room trauma activations to provide timely and proactive feedback to teams with the focus of prioritizing care that maximizes outcomes while meeting regulatory requirements. Reviews daily emergency room census reports to identify potential trauma patients. Identifies, reviews, tracks, and supports, trauma care throughout the continuum of care for each patient that meets trauma criteria from prehospital to discharge to determine compliance with established practice management guidelines and National Trauma Data Standards (NTDB). Documents daily primary case reviews, action plans, and loop closure in the trauma registry and other platforms. Participates in local, regional, and state trauma meetings through the RAC and GETAC. Provides feedback to outside facilities and EMS. Assist with Trauma Pediatric Readiness. Assist with trauma education and competency validation. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Work requires the ability to read, write and communicate in English. Work requires proficiency with various applications in MS Suite. Work requires effective communication skills. Work requires demonstration of ability to function independently as well as a team player. Work requires extraordinary organizational skills and attention to detail. Work requires ability to research issues and make recommendations for improvement while using critical thinking skills. Working Conditions Work is performed primarily in a hospital or hospital clinic environment. Constant walking, standing, bending, turning, and stooping. Pushing and pulling heavy objects such as patient beds. Must be able to help lift and turn patients. Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents in lieu of stated minimums require prior approval of the Vice President for Human Resources Administration, or his/her designee.
