Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Room/Emergency Department at Naval Hospital 29 Palms

Your duties as an RN in the Emergency Room will include:

  1. Triage: Assessing and prioritizing patients based on their condition.
  2. Patient assessment and monitoring: Continuously monitoring patients and evaluating their status.
  3. Nursing care and treatments: Providing appropriate nursing care, procedures, and treatments as prescribed.
  4. Execution of physicians' orders: Carrying out orders given by the medical staff.
  5. Documentation: Recording patient care, observations, and other relevant information.
  6. Patient education and emotional support: Educating patients and offering emotional support during their treatment.
  7. Goal-directed care plan: Creating and implementing care plans based on nursing diagnoses and patient outcomes.
  8. Treatment and discharge instructions: Administering treatment and providing discharge instructions when patients are ready to leave.
  9. Data collection: Systematically collecting patient data, considering physiological, psychological, and cognitive aspects.
  10. Safe environment: Ensuring a safe and clean environment for patients.
  11. Education and supervision: Assisting in planning, providing clinical direction, and instructing other medical personnel.
  12. Medication administration and wound care: Administering medications and providing wound care as needed.
  13. Emergency response: Recognizing adverse signs and reacting promptly in emergency situations.
  14. Operating automated systems: Working with various automated systems relevant to the medical setting.

To qualify for the RN position in the Emergency Room, you need to meet the following qualifications:

  • Education: Possess an Associates Degree of Nursing or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Experience: Have a minimum of one year of Emergency Department experience within the last four years or one year of full-time experience within the last three years in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
  • Certifications: Maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and, if not already certified, obtain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications within six months of starting the job.
  • IV certification: Attend a 2-hour lecture on IV certification before commencing service and obtain relevant certifications (IV, medications, and blood administration) within 60 days of starting the job.
  • Licensure: Hold a current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in any of the 50 States, DC, or U.S. Territories.
  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen to gain access to government computer systems.

Hours/Schedule

Registered Nurse (RN) - ER will work full-time, 80 hr/two weeks, Sun - Sat. 12.5 hr or 8.5 hr shifts (30 min uncompensated meal break), between 6: 00am-6: 30pm, 10: 00am-10: 30pm, 6: 00pm-6: 30am.

The Registered Nurse (RN) - ER is a FT position and will normally work six 12.5 hr shifts and one 8 hr shift per two week period. The Registered Nurse (RN)-Emergency Room will be expected to work five of the ten holidays and will be provided compensatory time off in the same amount of time worked.
