Duties You will assist in providing on the job training in the performance of rigger in charge duties while also performing both leader and journey level rigging functions associated with weight handling and lifting operations. You will support Crane and Rigging operations by assisting with the planning and coordination of work for the Rigging Supervisor. You will determine manpower, tooling, material availability, machine capabilities, and the methods required to complete rigger work. You will have overall control of the operation including planning all aspects of the lift; determining the weight of the load to be lifted; and establishing the appropriate method of communication with the operator. You will interpret and explain work instructions and blueprints for employees when necessary for the completion of rigging assignments. You will spot check rigger work operations and review completed work inspection reports to verify production and quality standards are met. You will perform crane and rigging work in conjunction with floating cranes and conduct shipboard testing of accommodation ladders, cargo booms, and ship's rigging gear and replenishment stations. You will ensure all personnel involved have their personal protective equipment with them, in working order, and that it is properly being utilized. You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases. You must have completed the Crane Rigger Course outlined in NAVFAC P-307, and when designated, must be able to fulfill the duties of a rigger in charge as per 10.2.1.1 NAVFAC P307. All personnel assigned to this position must qualify as ammunition and Hazardous Material Handler (AMHAZ). Personnel will be provided the necessary information and training to enable them to pass a basic written qualification test. Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. The nature of the position requires the incumbent to have superior journeyman level trade knowledge, experience and a thorough understanding of modern day technical rigging trade theory, practices and procedures, to efficiently direct the work operations. 2. Incumbent must have the skill and knowledge to plan, lay out, assemble, and install rigging on a variety of objects, and to make complex and critical judgements to rig and move objects in confined spaces. 3. Must have knowledge of equipment capacities and limitations to maneuver over, under, and around obstacles by tilting, dipping, and turning the suspended load. 4. The incumbent is required to be thoroughly familiar and knowledgeable of the NAVFAC P-307 Manual (Weight Handling Program Management) and must demonstrate expert ability to direct all lifting and handling operations, to include mobile crane operations on the pier. 5. Must be capable of applying international crane hand signals and possess the necessary skills and abilities needed to select tackle and lifting gear suitable for the loads and for rigging loads safely and securely. 6. The incumbent must be capable of reading and interpreting instructions, technical drawings, and blueprints. Must have knowledge of industry wide trade rules, regulations, and safety factors. Must have the knowledge and the ability to work with basic arithmetic and be fully capable of computing basic mathematical formulas used for establishing weights, heights and volumes and determine center of gravity, etc. 7. Personnel performing rigger leader duties and responsibilities must be thoroughly familiar with hazardous materials and hazardous material containment and handling.
