JOB SUMMARY The Retail Pharmacist is responsible for the quality of pharmacy services provided. This position collaborates with providers and staff both internal and external to the WhidbeyHealth system to ensure optimal patient care. The Retail Pharmacist duties include dispensing medications, assisting patients with drug information, developing and sustaining strong patient relationships, evaluating and resolving potential drug therapy problems, identifying barriers to care and finding solutions to improve medication adherence, providing thorough patient counseling, prescription verification, adherence to state and federal pharmacy laws, supervision of pharmacy technicians and ancillary staff and other duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager. PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS include the following, other duties may be assigned: Dispensing or supervising the dispensing of all medication throughout WhidbeyHealth Retail Pharmacy. Maintaining a working inventory of all medications. Placing orders with wholesaler and/or manufacturers as needed. Maintaining records and investigating Adverse Drug Reaction Reports. Maintaining an accurate, current inventory of narcotics at the retail pharmacy. Verifying all work of Pharmacy Technicians, Assistants and Pharmacy Interns/Externs. Participates in education of patients, nursing staff, medical staff and the public when appropriate. Researches and responds in a timely fashion to all questions from health care workers. Interacting with patients and families, nurses, physicians, and other hospital staff and detailers from various manufacturers. Upon request of and in the absence of the Pharmacy Manager the Pharmacist on duty will supervise all other Pharmacy personnel and ensure that all policies, procedures and standards of conduct are followed. JOB KNOWLEDGE QUALIFICATIONS Education Bachelor of Pharmacy or PharmD from an accredited college of pharmacy. Training and Experience Retail experience with excellent communication skills. Experience with disease state management, collaborative work with primary care providers and nursing staff. Knowledge of 340b program preferred Knowledge of all state and federal regulations Ability to work both independently and as a team in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with medical information and conform to HIPAA regulations Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Current Pharmacist License from the Washington State Department of Health, Board of Pharmacy.
