Position Overview: Establishes and manages basic and complex forms of mechanical ventilation (e.g., HFO, NPPV, PRVC, transport) with high proficiency and minimal supervision. Performs weaning mechanics as ordered with high proficiency in greater than 90% of the ventilator patients. Develops or refines the ventilator care plan on a daily basis and communicates to appropriate members of the patient care team. Collects specimens, performs basic and more complex diagnostic testing (e.g. blood gas, specimens, and sputums), and validates the quality of the results with high proficiency and minimal supervision. Interprets diagnostic and monitoring data with high precision. Integrates routinely patient diagnostic data, response-to-therapy, and physiologic profile to create a plan-of-care that is sound and consistent with the department standard-of-care. Uses effective time management in work organization and triaging. Handles consistently shift assignment without complaints or interventions. Performs consistently thorough, advanced cardiopulmonary clinical assessments, with appropriate inclusion of other systems (e.g., cardiovascular, nutritional, neurologic). Administers basic and advanced respiratory therapeutic interventions (e.g., heliox, nitric oxide, CNB Chest Wall Oscillation) with high proficiency and virtually no supervision. Responds immediately to all Code Blue, RRT, Trauma and STATS at least 90% of the time. Provides educational training to patient and/or family members as appropriate. Communicates consistently with healthcare members on patient's care plan, in a manner consistent with organization standards. Seeks actively ways to assist other members of the healthcare team and is recognized by peers and supervisory staff as collaborative and helpful. Receives at least one validated commendation from co-worker, physician, nurse, and supervisor during the evaluation year. Takes a role in training, education, orientation and student clinical time. Applies departmental protocols and clinical practice guidelines with high precision and compliance when indicated, without supervision. Applies routinely new techniques and procedures with high proficiency within 30 days of training/orientation. Understands the value, tools and performance indicators used in QI. Participates actively QI within department. Documents accurately data for quality improvement processes with the department (i.e., Mar, Assessment, Reassessment and Care Plan). MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Associate's Degree from an AMA Accredited Respiratory Therapy/Respiratory Therapist Program. Bachelor's Degree preferred. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). Experience: Two years clinical experience preferred. Other Credentials: AHA ACLS-Adv Cardiac Life Supp, AHA BLS - Healthcare Provider, AHA NRP-Neonatal Resuscitation, Respiratory Care Practitioner Knowledge and Skills: Critical thinking skills. Preceptor skills. Presentation and instructional techniques. Special Training: Training in multiple age populations.
