    Overview:


    The Registered Respiratory Therapist plays a pivotal role in providing competent care for patients across various age groups, spanning from infants to geriatric populations, depending on the assigned area. This individual executes assigned duties and responsibilities under minimal supervision from the Respiratory Care Department leadership team and Medical Directors of Respiratory Care. The role involves adherence to regulatory standards, clinical practice guidelines, and approved policies and procedures set by Medical Directors and Administration. The Respiratory Therapist frequently exercises independent judgment in therapy modification according to clinical practice guidelines and established procedures.


    Accountabilities:



    • Competently performs prescribed therapeutic and diagnostic procedures encompassing general care, critical care, emergency care, and diagnostic procedures within their scope of practice.

    • Safely operates, assembles, and troubleshoots therapeutic and diagnostic equipment essential for patient care, ensuring their proper function and accuracy.

    • Applies Respiratory Care Clinical Practice Guidelines to deliver safe, efficient, and cost-effective care based on evidence-based best practices.

    • Educates patients on disease-specific processes, tobacco cessation, and respiratory care services, including home care equipment and medications.

    • Assists in clinical instruction for respiratory care, nursing, medical students, and residents as required, contributing to their growth.

    • Adheres to Respiratory Care and Hospital Policies and Procedures, functioning independently within assigned areas.

    • Accurately documents patient information, including billing and productivity standards, actively participating in care planning and goal evaluation.

    • Undertakes additional duties within the scope of training and practice as assigned by leadership.


    Job Requirements:



    • Education: Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy program with a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).

    • Skills: Proficient in inputting and retrieving computer information.

    • License: State licensure to render respiratory care services (Ohio and/or Michigan).

    • Certification: Current BLS certification; ACLS, NRP, and PALS certification recommended and may be required in some business units. Membership in professional organizations like the American Association of Respiratory Care is encouraged.
