Job Description and Duties This position is located in the Medical Department at Porterville Developmental Center. Under the supervision of the Respiratory Care Supervisor, the Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) assists in the evaluation of pulmonary dysfunction in clients. The RCP provides care and treatment for clients with pulmonary disorders by means of respiratory therapy, chest physical therapy, ventilatory assistance and other therapy and care according to accepted respiratory care procedure. Must hold and maintain a current California license for Respiratory Care Practitioner. Maintain current BLS and ACLS certifications. Working Conditions TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must possess and maintain sufficient strength (lift up to 50 pounds without assistance), agility, endurance and sensory ability to perform the duties contained in the duty statement. Level of Care Employees will be required to perform the following Essential Functions: Must be able to lift 50 pounds without assistance; must be able to participate in client containment, intervention or restraint; must have the ability to work extended hours and various shifts; must float to all work areas within the facility if called upon to do so. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Ongoing interaction with clients, personnel and the general public. Potential exposure to communicable diseases, blood-borne pathogens, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinical nursing environment.
