Resident Fellow Department: Educate: The Montserrat College of Art Artist Educator Mentorship Residency Status: 2 years, non-renewable Salary range: $20,000 per year, plus housing and benefits Montserrat College of Art is pleased to announce an ongoing two-year artist-educator residency. The program will provide pedagogical training to MFA graduates wishing to pursue a career in higher education while also giving them the space and time to continue their artistic practices. The program seeks to help diversify historically underrepresented communities in higher education. To encourage national institutions to hire a more diverse range of educators, the program will foreground the creativity, innovation, and pedagogical interests of LGBTQ+ artists and artists of color. The structure of the residency encourages participants to draw on their own cultural and pedagogical reference points as part of the larger discussion of contemporary education. The College is interested in supporting colleagues who come as their authentic selves and who bring an intersectional and interdisciplinary approach to their creative practices. Montserrat takes an expansive view of creativity and welcomes studio practices that intermix traditional visual arts with other disciplines. While not a requirement, some relevant teaching experience is welcome. Each application round will invite applicants from different studio/creative practices. These will be specified in the call for applications. For the fellowship, we seek applicants who work in the realm of 4 Dimensionality at the intersection of narrative and interactivity. This will enrich Animation; Writing and Visual Narrative; Games, Toys, Play; and Interactive Design. By providing mentorship around the teaching experience, the opportunity for full participation in faculty governance, free access to studio space, the provision of on-campus housing, health insurance, and a teaching stipend, the mentorship residency allows new instructors the time, energy, and space to begin their academic careers. Montserrat invites recent MFA graduates in a range of disciplines to apply for the residency program. One person will be selected each year for a two-year residency. Each year, a new resident will be brought to the College. Going forward, the goal is to have two residents on campus every year. The program Participants will teach 10-12 classes over the course of 4 semesters and 2 summer sessions. These courses will be split between the Foundations year, the resident's area(s) of expertise, and a pre-college summer program. They will be provided with instruction and support in course design, assignment planning, classroom management, critique, and grading. Participants will also receive coaching in advising, program development and assessment, and institutional structures. In addition to the teaching and training, participants will have the time, space, and facilities to continue their studio practices. It is expected that students of the College will be able to visit the resident fellow's studio on occasion. Towards the end of their residency, they may also have the opportunity to work with the College's Gallery Director on a solo exhibition and public presentation. Included in the residency: On campus, private room/apartment; Individual space in an open, shared studio facility; Teaching stipend; Health insurance; Interview travel budget.
