Position Summary The Bao Lab is seeking a meticulous Research Technician who will conduct activities to support research projects under the supervision of senior research staff. Work will be performed in a laboratory environment with occasional office work. The Research Technician will assist in laboratory experiments including the experiment design and the organization and analysis of data. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, results-driven, and have the ability to engage effectively with students, faculty, and staff of diverse backgrounds. About George R. Requirements Bachelor's Degree in biochemistry-, cell biology and bioengineering-related field In lieu of the experience requirement, additional related education, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year for year basis may be substituted 1+ years of related experience Skills Required Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet software, Microsoft Office Suite Ability to listen and communicate (verbal, written) Proficiency in relevant math and research skills Ability to work independently and in team environments Good scientific and numerical skills with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy Critical thinking, technical, and data collection skills Statistical and graphical analysis skills Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards Ability to plan and schedule effectively Essential Functions Conducts specialized research and experiments including plasmid construction and validation, maxi-mini-prep, PCR, qPCR and ddPCR, standard cell culture procedures, Western Blotting, flow cytometry, cell sorting, and fluorescence microscopy Collects, tracks and analyzes data through the use of spreadsheets and databases Assists with evaluating and optimizing genome editing systems in cells Communicates results through verbal, PowerPoint presentations and written reports Assists in the setup of the laboratory and day-to-day laboratory technical operations including promoting safety, maintaining equipment and preparing reagents May assist in the administration of research project Performs all other duties as assigned. Additional Functions/Information This position is in person on the Rice University campus. Preferred Experience Two years of related experience in molecular biology, cell biology, and routine biochemistry lab experiments.
