Fiscal Year Position Title Research Technician, RENEW Institution Classification Title Research Support Specialist Department Renew Institute Posting Number R240042 Posting Link Employer Research Foundation Position Type RF Clerical/Technical Type Full-Time Appointment Term Salary Grade N.11 Posting Detail Information Position Summary The RENEW Institute at the University at Buffalo is seeking a Research Technician to join a high-performing team supporting exciting research conducted in the Aga Lab for Environmental Research and Testing (ALERT) and the RENEW Laboratories under Professor Aga's directorship. The laboratories are academic facilities and include analytical instruments and equipment to extract and process environmental samples. The Research Technician will provide support to research scientists by conducting various research projects and will operate and maintain Core analytical equipment, including Agilent, ThermoScientific, and Waters gas and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometer systems (GC-MS/MS and LC-MS/MS, respectively). Primary Responsibilities include: Providing general laboratory support to research scientists and conduct specific and exploratory research projects involving environmental sample preparation and sample extraction using solid phase extraction methods, targeted quantitative analysis of environmental samples using GC-MS/MS, LC-MS/MS, ICP-MS, and ion chromatography-based methods. Maintaining analytical equipment and prepare mobile phases, and standards. Quality assurance and quality control reporting and monitoring. Support for service contracts. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in chemistry, environmental science, or related field. A combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of the degree requirement. Formal training in LCMS and GCMS methods and practical experience with such methods. Strong oral and written English language skills, organizational skills, and basic computer skills (Microsoft Office products, statistical software packages (e.g., R, OriginPro, etc.) Ability to troubleshoot and maintain analytical instrumentation, including GC- and LC-MS/MS systems. Ability to adhere to deadlines and multi-task. Ability to carry out experiments to completion with general guidance. Ability to work with chemicals and to always maintain lab safety protocol and procedures. Preferred Qualifications Master's Degree in Analytical Chemistry or Environmental Science. Hands-on experience with sample preparation methods including solid phase extraction (SPE), chromatography-based separations (HPLC, GC), and mass spectrometry-based detection. Physical Demands Salary Range $40,000 - $55,000 Additional Salary Information The salary range reflects our good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible compensation at the time of posting, the role and associated responsibilities, and the experience, education, and training of the selected candidate.
