Fiscal Year Position Title Research Technician I, Ophthalmology Classification Title Research Technician I Department Ophthalmology Posting Number R230256 Posting Link Employer Research Foundation Position Type RF Clerical/Technical Type Full-Time Appointment Term Salary Grade N.4 Posting Detail Information Position Summary We are seeking an individual with a biology background and expertise in working with mouse models of disease to support our gene and nucleic acid therapeutics efforts for retinal degenerations. In this position you will: work on an exciting scientific project to develop novel gene and nucleic acid therapeutics toward treatments for certain retinal and ocular degenerative conditions work in a multidisciplinary lab that has expertise in molecular biology, biophysics, and bioengineering, with a focus on preclinical translation of nucleic acid therapeutics We are working to optimize our new therapeutic technology which involves bioinformatics, molecular, biochemical, cellular and animal experiments. You will predominantly work on the animal side of this program to deliver therapeutics to the eye and test outcomes in mouse models of retinal degenerations. We have mouse models of retinal degenerations that will serve to test our emerging therapeutic agents for both efficacy and toxicity. This work will mostly involve microscope-assisted injections into mouse eyes, followed by mouse retinal imaging approaches and retinal electrophysiology approaches that help us to determine if the therapeutics are functional and/or toxic. You will also assist in bioinformatics and biochemical and cellular experiments to help develop these novel therapeutics. After processing experimental data and applying statistics to evaluate significance and refine performance models, you will collaborate with the Principal Investigator and colleagues to develop novel strategies to further enhance this class of therapeutic agents. After learning essential tools you will work independently and exercise scientific judgement based upon your expertise. There will be regular discussion of experimental outcomes with the Principal Investigator and colleagues who will encourage your participation to structure the next experimental plans and scientific strategies. You can make intellectual contributions to the emerging science based upon your expertise and experience. With the Principal Investigator and colleagues you will place orders and maintain lab protocols, records, and safety documentation. In your experimental expertise you will train others (e.g., students, post-docs). With the Principal Investigator and colleagues you will help prepare manuscripts for publications, and aid in preparation of grant proposals and reports to acquire new and maintain existing funding. Minimum Qualifications Bachelors degree with biological, molecular biological, veterinary science and experience working with animals scientifically. At least one year of experience directly related to the research or the program. Preferred Qualifications Masters degree in appropriate biological, molecular biological, veterinary science. Experience working with animals and conducting experiments on animals. Physical Demands Capacity to move 20 pounds containers. Capacity to handle mice as experimental animals. Capacity to operate a microscope and do fine manual manipulations (e.g., surgical). Salary Range $35,000 - $45,000 Additional Salary Information The salary range reflects our good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible compensation at the time of posting, the role and associated responsibilities, and the experience, education, and training of the selected candidate.
