General Summary This position will contribute to research projects in the laboratories of the Vaccine and Immunotherapy Center (VIC) on the 5th floor of the MGH East Research Center, th Street, Charlestown, MA. The research specialist will work with laboratory investigators under the direct supervision of the VIC Director to carry out aspects of specific research projects. In addition to bench experiments as assigned, the position will have responsibilities for managing aspects of laboratory operations. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Applicant should have the fundamental skills necessary to develop, design, execute, analyze, and interpret experiments in an independent manner, including ensuring documentation sufficient to support potential patent or regulatory filings. The incumbent may create and develop new research methods or technologies to advance the overall project(s), and may contribute to scientific literature, reports, and presentations. Possible training and oversight of student interns or junior lab staff as required for specific projects. Laboratory operations responsibilities will include: Perform weekly inventory on shared laboratory supplies and enter renewal orders as needed. Work with other VIC management staff to monitor and manage supply costs, and to initiate and track project-specific vendor contracts and special orders. Assist institutional laboratory safety officers in scheduling and coordination of required reviews, briefings or training and to ensure that all safety signs and labeling are compliant and up to date. Assist investigators with laboratory space clean ups and routine moves. Organize documentation related to laboratory activities such as compliance certifications, equipment registrations, audit reports, and warranties. Maintain laboratory equipment inventory and document required certification, calibration, and inspection dates. Work with laboratory investigators to facilitate required update activities. Skills required 1. Basic competency with Microsoft Office Suite: MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint. 2. Highly organized and methodical. 3. Strong statistical and research analytical skills. 4. Effective written and oral communication skills. 5. Able to work constructively in team settings while pursuing tasks independently Education MS or PhD required Experience Minimum of 7 years of progressively more responsible research experience required. Experience with molecular biology and cell culture techniques preferred. Familiarity with the basic concepts of immunology will be a plus, as will experience with flow cytometry or mass cytometry.
