Shriners Children's is the premier pediatric burn, orthopaedic, spinal cord injury, cleft lip and palate, and pediatric subspecialties medical center. We have an opportunity for a Research Specialist to join our Research team.

The Research Specialist assists with the execution of the research plan which includes selection of subjects/cases, collaboration to develop the research protocol, sample preparation and testing, data collection, data analysis and preparations for presentation and publication. This position will be responsible for DNA/RNA extraction from blood/saliva samples, quantification and storage and shipping to core labs. Must have knowledge of whole genome sequencing analysis software, PCR amplification and Sanger sequencing of DNA samples, real time quantitative PCR, microarray analysis, reverse transcription of mRNA followed by DNA sequencing, and RNA seq analysis


Required Education

Bachelor's degree in science required


Required experience

At least one(1) or more years of relevant research experience


Certification/licensure

Computer proficiency in Windows 10, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Experience with WES/WGS software is preferred

Coursework, training or experience in human genetics preferred

Experience wiht human genome database, such as UCSC Genome Browser, gnomAD preferred

Human Subject Protection and GCP certification required upojn hire. Training renewed every three years


Additional experience

Working knowledge of the clinical research process

Knowledge of ethical standards for research and a commitment to protect all participants
