Job Title: Research Scientist (Remote/Hybrid) Cost Center: MCRI-Clin Epidem and Pop Hlth Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Employee Type: Regular Work Shift: Mon-Fri; 8:00 am - 5:00 pm (United States of America) Job Description: The Marshfield Clinic Research Institute is actively recruiting an Associate Research Scientist or Research Scientist in the Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Population Health. The Research Scientist will lead epidemiology research with a substantial focus on the Vaccine Safety Datalink (VSD), a CDC-funded research network MCRI has participated in VSD for more than two decades, and the current contract will continue into 2027 when competitive renewal is anticipated. Major responsibilities will include: a) initiate and lead independent vaccine safety research in collaboration with CDC and VSD sites, b) collaborate on vaccine safety research led by other VSD sites throughout the United States, c) work closely with the MCRI VSD team to ensure quality and accuracy of Marshfield Clinic VSD data files, d) lead statistical analyses on VSD projects, and e) prepare manuscripts, posters, and presentations to communicate study findings. Vaccine safety is a substantial focus of this position, but other areas of research can be pursued with external funding. The Marshfield Clinic VSD study team includes MD/PhD researchers, biostatistician, programmers, project manager, and research coordinators. This position will be supervised by the Director - Center for Clinical Epidemiology & Population Health. The Research Scientist will be expected to develop an independent research portfolio, comprised of VSD-related work, as well as other independent externally funded research, matching with the scientist's research interests and experience. The position can be onsite or hybrid, with a combination of remote and onsite presence (depending on project activities). JOB SUMMARY The Associate Research Scientist maintains and conducts a high quality research program to achieve the organizational goals and results within the Marshfield Clinic Research Institute (MCRI). The research activities are determined by the Center Director and there may be opportunities to participate in and receive some funding from existing funded research projects. Positions are classified as tenure or non-tenure track based on organizational need at time of hire. EDUCATION Minimum Required: Doctorate in a relevant scientific field. Preferred/Optional: None EXPERIENCE Minimum Required: Two years' experience in research activities relevant to the area of hire (may include doctoral thesis or other research conducted during a postgraduate program). Demonstrated proficiency with scientific methods and software relevant to the area of hire. Documented original research publications in peer-reviewed, National Library of Medicine (NLM) indexed journals, including publications where the applicant is listed as first author. Preferred/Optional: Expertise in research areas currently generating external funding for center investigators. Demonstrated proficiency in securing extramural funding for research projects. Experience serving as a Principal Investigator and leading research teams. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Minimum Required: None Preferred/Optional: None OR JOB SUMMARY The Research Scientist in this open rank tenure track position maintains and conducts a high quality research program, relevant to the area of hire, to achieve the organizational goals and results within the Marshfield Clinic Research Institute (MCRI). This scientist or clinician-scientist should have a strong and consistent record of scientific discovery in their applicable area of expertise. He/she should be in a position to secure externally funded research awards, collaborate with scientists and clinician investigators, and implement translation of their research throughout Marshfield Clinic Health System (MCHS) and beyond. JOB QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation. Minimum Required: Doctorate in clinical discipline (MD, DO, DDS, DMD etc.) or philosophy (PhD) or equivalent in scientific field relevant to the area of hire. Preferred/Optional: None EXPERIENCE Minimum Required: Five years' experience in research activities relevant to the area of hire and rank (may include doctoral thesis or other research conducted during a postgraduate program). Demonstrated proficiency in securing extramural funding for research projects. Proven ability to plan and execute applied/translational research. Established proficiency with scientific methods and software relevant to area of hire. Documented original research publications in peer-reviewed, National Library of Medicine (NLM) indexed journals, including publications where the applicant is listed as first and/or last author. Verified accomplishments in discovery, receipt and management of extramural grants and/or contracts, commensurate with rank.
