To learn more, visit What We Want The High Performance Research Computing group is hiring a Research Scientist that will be responsible for assisting customers using complex research computing resources for advanced research purposes; providing technical oversight for the consulting, technical support, and training provided to users of high-performance computing resources for scientific research, as well as to other technical staff and serving as principal investigator on an NSF grant. The preferred candidate will have a PhD in a field of study that applies computational approaches and six to ten years of research experience that includes aspects of leadership and mentorship. These can be uploaded on the application under CV/Resume Please note: This position is grant funded; future employment may be contingent upon future funding Required Education and Experience: Appropriate PhD Six years of experience in computational research Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others Ability to occasionally work outside of normal working hours and weekends, may require some domestic travel Preferred Education and Experience: PhD in a field of study that applies computational approaches Six to ten years of research experience that includes aspects of leadership and mentorship Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Fortran, Matlab, C, C , CUDA, OpenACC, with the ability to learn others as needed Familiarity with tools, and techniques used in scientific computing Proficient in using the LINUX/UNIX operating systems Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others Ability to travel both nationally and internationally Responsibilities: Consulting, Proposal Participation, And Dissemination - Provides technical leadership and expertise to the facility's user community in the computational aspects of their research through intensive consulting, training and general support activities, all aiming at integrating HPC technologies into research. Supports and participates in activities aimed toward the pursuit of extramural funding. Responds to user queries regarding research computing resources. Supports funded efforts at HPRC. Travel to conferences and events at times. Office Operations, Outreach and Training - Participates in mentoring, training, and development of HPRC users and employees. Analyses and benchmarks scientific applications. Assists in the installation/maintenance of high-performance computing software on various operating systems. Provides training courses on research computing techniques to staff and users. Aids in the development of ad-hoc programs for customers of high-performance computing resources. Participates in HPRC's community outreach efforts. Research - Conducts self-guided research in topics relevant to research computing. Presents findings at conferences and through publications in proceedings and professional journals. Pursues external funding opportunities. Presents research-findings via publications and conference presentations. Standards And Procedures Administration - Develops standards and oversee the implementation of procedures to facilitate research on research computing resources. Updates the research-computing knowledge-base to keep our users abreast with the latest technologies.
